I was on an old HD looking through pics and I found these and I thought I would share.

This was from back in 2002, when the Transformers Commemorative Series was in full swing at TRU.

Hard to believe it's already been 15 Years!!!

I actually just got commerative Rodimus Prime for a great price on eBay. Delivery Monday!

I'm really an '86 or later fan, but there sure is something special about those early car molds with Diecast and rubber wheels that actually turn into robots.

The only bad thing about Rodimus is that the y joint in his torso is backwards. It's not a huge deal...but it does keep his chest from sitting flush...causing him to look like he is looking slightly up.

Hmm. I found an article describing how to fix it, sounds like just disassembly and reassembly. Almost sounds too easy.

Whatever, I'll be happy. It's been a childhood dream since this Beast Wars kid rented the movie in VHS.

Wow these pics bring back memories. I wish hasbro would do something again in 2017 for G1.

$39.99 for the autobot cars 15 years ago? Is that right?

    Jeez!

IIRC, after the initial supplies sold well, TRU bumped the price up.

Increased prices plus lesser known characters (?) in later waves caused the line to stagnate, again if memory serves.

Ya, and then they liquidated the stock and you could get a car for $10.
I miss going to the store and actually seeing boxed toys on the shelf.

I should add that this was in Canada. Thus the reason for higher prices

I think this a good spot for my little commemorative series story.

I had just got an apartment a couple doors down from a TRU and stopped by to look at PS2 games. I saw a big display of the G1 reissues and grabbed a cart and filled it. On the way to the checkout I added up the prices. I decided hold off a second and check what people are saying about these figures online. I went to the kinkos next door, got on a computer and that was my first taste of TF fans message boards. Way more content than I expected to find about toys and all negative. The plastic is bad, the stickers are wrong, the box art sucks. I didn't go back to TRU, I went home. :)

I remember Optimus was freakin hard to find though Ultra Magnus was pretty easy. The only other figure that was very difficult was Star Scream. Was able to get the other seekers relatively easy. Really sucked that the only cone head that came out was Dirge. I got a few of the cars though I got a few of the Takara ones.

The TRU reissues are the reason I started collecting Transformers again. Love seeing boxed transformers in stores.

Holy Cow, was that how TRU looked liked back in 2002. That was the year, I moved to the US for studies. Too bad I didnt have time to get into collecting till 2010 by which time, empty aisles were the norm of the day!!!

I tried fixing it myself. But I ran into an issue in that I think something is glued and going any further would damage the figure.

Still, it's not too bad as it is. And I have a vintage one too.

I remember seeing them and wanted to get one of the jets. But being in my early teens at the time, the parents said no.

Yeah I was saying at the time the G1 reissues came out. I did get the Platinum edition cone heads last year.
