    I am okay with the Innerspace stuff because a 1/60 or 1/64 scale Trek Starship would be massive.

    That's exactly what I didn't like about the innerspace stuff, they're just too small, you don't get much usable play space in them.
    Obviously I don't expect them to be in scale, star trek ships range from tiny to enormous with not much in-between lol but they certainly could have been a bit bigger like the Enterprise D they did.

    Speaking of figures of this type, do you know of any reliable mods to do to them to add more articulation? My Innerspace figures only have a hip joint, that's it.

    Funny you mentioned that, I actually never seen anyone modify vintage tiny figures to add more articulation :D 
    But in theory you can make a hole and put some wires inside and probably be done with it
