Another Star Trek kit, this one inspired by the background ship the Jupp. It showed up for a brief scene in DS9 as a cobbled together Constitution variant during the Dominion War, and I was fascinated by the logic of using that kind of ship.

    USS Jupp

    And then I made one.

90% of the kit comes from the recent 1/1000 Enterprise remodel by Polar Lights. The rest, which is the “drive section” below the neck, are a few pieces intended for the NCC incarnation of the Excelsior from that Polar Lights kit. The same for the blue deflector dish, which comes from the parts made for the Enterprise B incarnation of that kit. Otherwise, it’s glue and paint.

    For Scale

The backstory, I figure, is that the Constitution class ships were all eventually decommissioned, but rather than being scrapped entirely, Starfleet turned the few remaining ones into shipyard tugboats and defense platforms. Aside from putting one in a museum. Sure, they’re slow. But they’ll do the job, and they’re reliable. Each shipyard can customize their own, since it’s not really a uniform design, which is why mine is a little different. The Excelis needs a deflector, as it operates at the Pluto Shipyards near the Oort Cloud. Thus, a deflector dish is needed rather than a passive one.

The battle damage, taken from the Wrath of Kahn tie-in decals, come from the Battle of Sector 001 (First Contact). It took some heavy damage from another ship’s exploding warp core, but spent most of the battle dragging other ships to safety. It’s got a skeleton crew at best, so there’s really no point in covering up the damaged hull if it can still move well enough. And hull plating for these ships is getting pretty damned rare.

Im kinda proud of it, my first Star Trek kitbash. What do you guys think?
