Not going to waste any time and effort into arguing about this shit on the internet. Maybe if Bay came on and read this stuff and actually took into account opinions on a fan site (which no director will EVER do), I'd give it a shot.

We're getting TF5. TF4 was a significant step up from TF2 and 3. I'm happy. Just improve the toys, Hasbro.

Sounds like 100% BS to me.

    He's just being defensive.

Anyone who is willing to engage in a basic logical talk about the movie (no not 'pro critic snobbery') can end up with dozens of things wrong or poorly done in the movie.

What a clown. They're reviewing it as if it were a competent cinematic story and it's coming up short. They're not comparing it to arthouse films, they're comparing it to regular ol' popcorn films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Batman Begins, The Matrix, James Bond, X-Men, etc.. These aren't Oscar-bait films, they're just competent stories using the medium well.

When Bonaventura says things like "[t]he truth is, it's not like we sit down and go, 'All right, let's think about how we can explore the mythology further,'" and "[h]onestly, we haven't thought through some of those questions [about terraforming and the Dinobots]", he's unintentionally explaining part of these movies' problems: nobody really is thinking about things on even a basic level. They put all their efforts into fluff and ignore thinking through the junk they throw at the screen because they only put it in there to be "cool".

Honestly, I prefer Bay telling people "Go ahead and hate my movies, I don't give a shit." Then, he ends up changing the movie, if only a little, to try and appease the critiques of the past. So he does care, least a tad.

I'm still pushing for Ben Stiller for TF5 Director, though!

    Fixed.

Anyone who says that the critics are fairly evaluating these movies are either Bay-hating, or willfully ignoring what's happening around them.

I'm not saying that if you disliked AOE, then you're wrong. But, if we go by what the critics have been telling us, it's worse than ROTF... Seriously? Do you honestly believe that? You don't think that assessment is a bit off to you?

Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Maleficent get off easy with a 50% or higher, but this movie.... oh, man, it's sooo awful! It's even worse than the Twilight films!

    Yeah, I don't buy it.

AOE was definitely flawed. But, as I watched it, it became abundantly clear that Bay and his team actively looked at a lot of the criticism directed at these films, and sought to fix them in this movie. For the first time, since these movies came out, I felt that Michael Bay may actually like Transformers, and care about the characters to some degree.

These movies are just used by critics as a scapegoat to lash out against big Hollywood, in some backwards effort to stick it to them. "We're smarter than these films, dammit!"

Yeah, whatever. Too bad the general public obviously loves them.

In the end, critics are just being immature and irresponsible. They should be using their influence to guide people, not to poison people against something for the sake of sending a message.

Completely agree. In no way was the movie perfect, but I really felt Bay TRIED to change and improve the flaws the other movies had. Better human characters, more Autobot interaction, stronger villains, and (my favorite) no more toilet humor.

A lot of critics just refuse to say 'Oh, this movie isn't ALL bad' and just want to shit on Bay.

I'm happily excited for Transformers 5. And I'm happily laughing at how much money the movie has made despite the critics' best attempt.

Regardless he doesn't specify and insulting all critics because a few of them have said harsh things about AOE is just sign that this guy is an asshole. It sounds like he is in denial about any criticisms of the movie.

His outlook on criticisms possibly explains why we don't see much improvement in the movie series or his films in general. His movies that gain sequels are simply rehashing the plot of the first movie; G.I.Joe, RED and Transformers. If you have a look at his filmography most of the time his movies are generic action flicks and most of his movies are considered terrible by critics.

The only film he's produced that breaks his routine of shitty movies appears to be Stardust (in 2007) however that film also had many other producers who presumably did more work on the movie than him.

He is a bad producer who cant take criticism - simple fact.

MOVIES AREN'T GOOD JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING COOL. You can show shit explode? Neat. How about you try to, I don't know, TELL A DECENT FUCKING STORY WITH SOME DECENT FUCKING CHARACTERS AND DECENT FUCKING WRITING. Good fuckity god, I'll be glad if we get even a DECENT fucking TF movie again! I mean I love them to death, but it's the SAME GODDAMN THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

And don't even fucking TRY and pull that "Oh, they're supposed to be fun" bullshit with me. Trips to amusement parks are fun. They capture my interest, they're thrilling, and I care when it ends. These movies are like being on the Ferris Wheel when it's stuck and your all the way on the top-you see everyone else having fun. And it's cool to look at, maybe, but you won't really care if the wheel starts turning again. If anything, you're checking your watch and hoping they fix some shit.

And this isn't some "Fuck Michael Bay" shit, it's some "Fuck Bad Movies" shit. Michael Bay can make a decent TF flick, provided he's got some decent writers that actually fucking give a shit about writing a coherent story and a producer who will knock his ass out when he tries something stupid (like a FUCKING OREO ROBOT). But as long as the people involved are apathetic, we aren't gonna see that flick come to fruition.

I've seen dozens of review of the movie. The ONLY positive one was MovieBob's.

This, pretty much sums up my feelings. If almost all critics is panning on your film, theres something wrong with your film. I always find the films fun on 1st or 2nd watch but I find they have very little staying power and end up gathering dust on my self. I havent seen AOE yet so I will reserve final judgement but using the excuse critics dont like summer blockbusters just doesnt cut it.

In which case Lorenzo is even more of a moron if he were to ignore the consistent criticisms of the hundreds of critics. If the bad reviews outweigh the good then its likely an issue with the movie. Even if we discredit those who have some direct hatred against Bay that still leaves hundreds of critics who have mentioned thousands of issues that the movie has.

A smart producer would shift through the main consistent criticisms that reviewers state and use it to improve with his next film - Lorenzo doesn't. He simply claims that critics are all wrong and "don't understand" the movie - a retort often used by directors who try and pass off a shitty movie as being artsy or special. You can check his filmography to see examples of this as he's used very similar dialogue to anyone who dislikes his other movies.

You say that - but a critic doesn't have anything to gain from telling people a movie sucks other than fan backlash - as such while their may be a few who just dislike the movies - Lorenzo's immature denial of all criticism is just childish.

The issue is that none of the Critics I've seen so far (besides MovieBob) recognize what the movie IMPROVES.

I disagree. In this day and age, its very cool to say "Bay sucks!" You may get one or two defenders, but for the most part, people will agree with you because that's the 'cool' thing to do. That, and it might make some of them happy to insult another's work, since they probably hate how Bay keeps earning big money.

It's kinda hard to find the criticisms since most of them sound more like insults then constructive criticism, that's probably why he ignores them all together.

Exactly. If you do something and someone offers constructive criticism, you're more likely to listen. If I made a movie and a critic goes on and on ranting about explosions, sexism, racism and how the movie is pure crap, I'm not gonna listen.

What's wrong with it? I'm assuming you didn't like Dispenser, XBOX bot or Nokia bot either?

    1. Badly written movie.
    2. Full of plotholes.
    3. Movie designs for characters are awful.
    4. Movie is named Transformers, not humans that save giant alien robots.
    5. Mythos is not respected.

No this is not Shakespeare, that doesn't mean you get a pass just to make a bad movie.

Marvel studios has proven multiple times, respect the source material, respect the fans, put heart into your work and it will show.

I am glad these movies keep kids interested in Transformers, but if more quality were put into it for adult fans, then it might just get praise like Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
