All participation is welcomed. If I missed anything please let me know. These differences are ones I found just by combing over the pictures. I had an extremely difficult time finding an MOSC red Cliffjumper to compare off of. If you have one, snap a pic, and let me know! This "guide" (if you can even call it that) is a work in progress based off of the only clear repro'ed image we have. Credit to Duocons and the folks at thetoyvalley.com for the repro'ed Cliffjumper image. Keep all ethical "knockoff" discussion out of this thread. This is for educational purposes only. NO DEBATES PLEASE. Again, the purpose to this is to educate eBayers. There are AWFUL sellers out there who claim these pieces as being real. I attempted to rank these in order of importance. Position 1 is the "dead giveaway". If you see this, you know it's not legit. There are some color differences, but those have to be ignored. Many variables with originals (fading, picture lighting, etc) make color matching against repro's inconclusive. 1. Dead center card punch. The originals compensated for the off-centered card weight by moving the hole punch. This way, the toy would hang straight. The reproduction has a punch right down the center. Hang this, and the right side will flop. 2. Font issues. Looks like this part of the card needed to be re-engineered. The reproduction people scan existing cards. These cards may have bubble removal damage. After the scan, they go back in and fix the graphic. The font isn't exactly the same one used in 84. 3. Positioning of "THE" The repro'ed card has a "THE" which is: 1. too low - it's completely below the wavey color separation line in "TRANS" 2. too close - it's almost touching the "TRANS" 4. Cliffjumper graphic size It's almost identical in every dimension ... I did find a place where the head isn't quite right. 5. Unconfirmed, but under suspect - The card's grid seems to be off. I supposed this happened in 1984, but I have a feeling this won't be the only MOSC repro'ed CJ like this. - The bubble's edges seem to be textured. I'm almost sure the originals had a flat finish. - confirmed, 8/5/07 - When a minibot is packed in bot form, I could swear that a preview image of the car form is shown. - *update* the minibot's bubble should be directly placed in the lower right-hand corner. There's no buffer space between the bubble and card's edge. See the Hubcap guide for more details. - confirmed, Might Gaine 8/5/07 Again, if you have an MOSC CJ or even a pretty card, let me know! Thanks!
your badass man, now find the differences in the sludge box. note: there were two official releases of the sludge box or dinbots boxes. one had the boxes in the series box, the other had them in the series two boxes. anyways man, cant wait.-MR ps: keep up the good work man, I'm sure everyone appreciates the time you take to keep everyone informed, especially myself.
I'd be ALL over the Sludge box, but I can't find the Season 2 version which the repro is based on. If ANYONE has a season 2 Sludge box (look for the red Tracks on the back), please PM pictures to me. I have an idea what's wrong with the repro ... but it's all unconfirmed.
I think the position of the bubble is different as well. I believe the plastic comes right up to the right and bottom of the card on the originals, but there is some buffer room on the knockoffs. Same with Bumblebee. Edit--See the Hubcap guide.
I personally hope they make the red Bumblebee so that I can replace the foot on mine. ALso not sure if it's just the card, but the original card looks to to dull for the face. If anyone has al original they should take a picture and see
