Alright, some comparison shots between the BWR Obsidian and the CGI model.




The helicopters are completely different. They painted the actual rotors red, which is a nice touch, along with red stripes on the tail fin. Apart from the general grey color, there's not much hope of making these two match very well.


Robot mode is a little closer. The CGI model loses the cockpit chest, so I've shot the picture with it pointing forward to obscure it a bit for better comparison with the show model.



And a facial portrait. I see where they got the vents on the chest, and the CGI facial model isn't a bad match for the toy, or vice versa. Despite the added detail and some differences, it's clearly much the same face.

 

you may be able to swap the green propellers for the red on the blue one to help get it a bit more accurate

 

I'd have preferred it if they'd made Obsidian without the 'wheels' around the rotors and just given him two rotor blades. I guess it was either a safety issue, or they thought wheels made for better missiles.

 

Personally, I think the toys look way more menacing, powerful, and destructive than does the animation version, which although looking super sleek and cool, just looks like a futuristic transport copter for rich folk. I think it's the hands in toy version, and the fact that you've used them in your strips to launch the "button" missiles from them that they don't look like kibble, but actual missile pods.

 

Might be an idea to do a full gallery of him for the gallery here at some point. There aren't a whole lot of pictures of him on the internet.

Can't wait to see what he's going to do next.

wont strika and the others on the surface who havnt had the special metal coating be fried as well when the energy changes the planet, or is Obsidian sacrificing them too?

He's not actually planning on releasing the energy so it affects the planet. He's planning on keeping it contained within the chamber and using the chamber like a forge. As long as his plans work, there's no danger to Strika and the others.
