Some quick mods to add some improvement to Grimlock

The hand / arm mod is a quick dremel fix. No need to take anything apart, just file down the peg that plugs into the back of his arm, and then file down 2 small channels for his grey dino foot to rest more against his main foot. You can see the difference with his right arm modded and the left one not.

Dino arm mod was a quick dremel fix as well. I like the dino arms up to cover his leg bits in dino mode. So to have them rest closer to the body, I filed down where his dino arms normally plugged into. Now that panel with his arms rests more against his dino body.

The third mod is for his mouth on the back. I'm not sure if I like this mod or not. I had to take 2 screws apart that are on the front of his chest. This allowed the bottom jaw part on his back to rotate more up. Once it's up you can dremel away a little bit of his dino neck / stomach (hopefully the picture makes this more clear). You need to get rid of that little bit so that it can rotate past his upper legs in bot mode. You can see the before and after. Once those areas are filed down you can put the screws back in and transform him normally, but now you can rotate the bottom jaw up more. Again, not sure if I'm crazy about this or not as you can see the other piece behind his robot head now sits up higher too. I may have to revisit this one.

Now to tackle that damn weapon of his...

I am assuming this is Voyager. if that's the case, i have a mod in mind myself for the weapon. Basically, cut it in half, get a half inch long piece of plastic and drill holes in both ends of the severed weapon. Then, glue the piece of plastic into one of the holes. Boom, you have a weapon that can separate and then be connected back together, allowing you to have grimlock hold it properly. I just have to get the figure in hand and play around with it to figure it out perfectly.

That's exactly what I have in mind for it as well. It can split and go in his hand, as well as being able to hold the club part and the trident part separately. I want to see if I can get it to attach better in dino mode as well.

I did the weapon mod and posted pics in the feedback thread awhile ago. I cut the pointy part, on the shaft side of the 'pommel' in a V to match the actual shape. I then drilled both pieces and inserted a small plastic rod, affixing it to one side. The drill hole is tight enough to hold it together and it looks tons better. Also, following the sculpted detail for the break makes the mod a lot less obvious than cutting it in the middle.

I split his weapon into 2 and using some styrene tubes I built it so that it can connect as one big staff, or he can wield 2 separate weapons. I cut some grooves in there too to give it some detail.

Finished painting the club/sword/staff. Also I built up his heals a little so he doesn't lean back.

These are some awesome mods. Do you store the weapon anywhere in dino mode? :)

I wanted to have the top club part unfold on a hinge and store under his tail/legs in dino mode, but I didn't think it looked that great. So, no, nowhere to store it.

2nd. what color of paint did you use?

3rd. how did you build his heels and what material did you use?

1st. what size of tubing did you use?

4.88 mm solid tube for the part that slips into his hand. With a coat of paint you essentially get close to a normal 5 mm port of normal hand held weapons.

6.4 mm hollow tube went around that 4.8 mm to help strengthen it.

2.5 mm solid tube was used as the connecting port between the 2 4.8 mm pegs. I had to manually drill a hole into the 4.8 mm peg (patience Daniel-son)

2nd. what color of paint did you use?

Black obviously to coat it. Some Tamiya Metallic Grey for some dry-brushing. I also used some Krylon Premium Premium Original Chrome spray paint - props to Supersquad7 (I could only find it at a Hobby Lobby).

3rd. how did you build his heels and what material did you use?

I used a regular piece of styrene to extend it, and then coated it with an automotive plastic goop called Lord Fusor 114 - props to Wikkid. It's a 2-part (white and red - and make sure you get equal parts of both) system that is a thick paste and then hardens in 10 minutes or so. You basically put it on, let it harden and sand it down to where you need it. It makes for a nice smooth transition and fills in gaps here and there. FYI, I ordered it from ebay, but I think Amazon had it too.

Hope that helps. Thanks for looking. I'm in the middle of painting the whole figure right now. The 20 month old running around make the process of painting the figure take months :)
