    Hi Folks,

I'd like to introduce you to Apex-the third installment of my new line of characters-the previous being Tempest* and Metal Head.* If you're unfamiliar with my threads, my goal is to create a new Universe called "THE VIACONS." Here's the log line.

“The VIACONS are a long lived race of techno-organic beings that reside on the sentient world of VIACON 1. Recently emerging from a millennia long war that decimated much of their population and leveled their once great cities-the Viacons seek to rebuild their Empire and restore it to its former glory. During the Great Viaconian Wars, much of their population were scattered across the quadrant, existing in small pockets of lawless outposts throughout the system. In the new order, the Viacon Republic and its Senate, have sought to reunite all Viaconians back into the fold. However, an ancient enemy, long thought extinct and only spoken of in myth, has made a silent return. Cloaked in secrecy, the Tecrom have infiltrated parts of the Senate and have begun undermining the foundation of its rule. The few who are aware of the threat have formed a clandestine resistance-systematically recruiting into their ranks, those who posses unique qualities that will aid them in their struggle to expose and ultimately drive out the Tecrom."

NAME: APEX of the TYR Clan
    AFFILIATION: None currently
    POSITION: Former VSU Lieutenant

    APEX BIO:
Before the TECROM invasion of Viacon 1, Apex was part of the VSU, a black Viaconian Special Units group- an elite squad of “dark” soldiers charged with the forceful extraction of key personnel in volatile situations. As a former member of its ranks, Apex was trained in multiple disciplines including stealth, evasion, hand-to-hand and weapons and tactics. Although a gifted soldier, Apex’s career was cut short after disobeying a “wet works” order by his commanding officer on a remote outpost along the border of a separatist colony. After a short firefight, the untrained separatist threw down their arms, ending the engagement- leaving half a dozen hostiles off-line and one VSU member critically injured. The situation was secured- all hostages were accounted for and the remaining hostiles were in custody, however the termination order still stood. Apex, recognizing a possible error in judgment- questioned the validity of the order and refused to comply without further confirmation from an Oracle or the Viacon High Command. However before he could confirm the order, without warning, his commanding officer unloaded three plasma rounds into his chest, for disobeying the order. Away from prying eyes, the remaining squad rounded up the restrained hostiles and carried out the order, massacring a dozen unarmed separatist. Apex was left for dead and laid to rust alongside them for the clean-up crew to rectify. He was later reported as terminated in the line of duty. Sometime later, when it was discovered that Apex had not met his end, his former commanding officer filed false charges against him- accusing him of desertion. He is now wanted by the Viacon government. Apex travels the byways between the outlying separatist worlds hiding amongst them in plane sight, always one step ahead of his pursuers, unaware of the Tecrom invasion that slowly engulfs Viacon 1. The Viacon Resistance is aware of his innocence and has taken note of his skills as a soldier, survivalist and a possible ally; such to the point that the Femacon elite has dispatched one of their best operatives to retrieve him in hopes that he will join the cause with the promise of clearing his name.

I would love to hear what you think about Apex's bio and design or what you might have on your mind. I look forward to you questions and comments and will make sure I answer all your questions promptly. Thanks for looking.

    Cheers!!

    Tecrom

Very nice, reminds me of Devon from the g1 cartoon in terms of looks. Fits the scourge mold well. Bio is nice. Definately want to see the tecrom villains, villains are usually more fun.

I've always wanted a Devcon head for the Botcon 09 Scourge (which is a remold of the cybertron Sideways mold), is there any way you can resize it for that figure? Now that I have Generations Scourge I don't need to use the Botcon version for my classics collection and would love to re-purpose it as the Autobot bounty hunter.

I'm glad you like the model. Unfortunately its rarely a matter of resizing. It does take quite a bit of time and effort to get the right fit. Measuring, remodeling test prints etc. Any alteration, even by a .25 mm, would deform the model, especially parts that need to remain symetrical. Also there's never a guarantee a digital model will work on any given figure, its just the way things are. I apologize if I couldn't be of more help, but I'm sure Apex or my other two designs, would make great additions to your collection!

    Thanks for the compliment.

I'm glad Apex works for you. And I'm happy you like his bio. I wanted to make his origin more tragic than the others. I appreciate you take the time to give it a go. Thanks!!

I definately plan on making "more" Tecrom characters, but I want to establish the core characters first. But in the mean time I hope you guys/gals allow my designs to be a part of your collection.

If you haven't done so, please check out the Metal Head and Tempest threads via the links above. If you like Apex you'll definately like the other two.

    Cheers!!

The Devcon head looks pretty good.

By the way, you say it "band together" not "ban together".

Thanks for the compliment and the catch. Spell check didn't pick it up. lol

Thanks for your support. Looks like people really dig the Metal Head, quite a bit people ordered them, so I think we'll be seeing some cool customs of him soon!! But yeah, I'm hoping to see customs of Tempest and this Apex too, Xaviercal's take on Tempest was beautiful. Please spread the word and I'll try to keep modeling some stuff that fans will like. All the best!!

I justed wanted to update the thread with the cleaned and painted Apex head on the toy. I've also added a close up picture of the "Frosted Ultra Detail" material the model was printed in from Shapeways.

For Tracer. If you do the mod, I'm sure you'll give Apex a neck but as it stands in the pic below, his head is just resting on Drift's shoulders. A mod "should" work as Apex's head measures 11.9mm wide, 18.5mm high and 18.1mm deep and Drift's is 13mm wide, 17mm high and 17 mm deep and I think Blurr's head is bigger than Drift's, so again I'm thinking there wouldn't be an issue.

would you recommend a United or Generations Scourge for this guy? I see a lot of shininess, implying that I should go with a United. is that final picture just a CG/Photosopped pic or is it a legit painted figure? If it's actually painted, which paints did you use?

    Hi,

The picture is not CG. And the model will go with either version of the mold, as you'd have to paint it yourself. I'd recommend going with the Frosted Ultra Detail material Shapeways offers for best results which cuts down on clean up and retains the most detail. The head pictured above is from a small batch of cleaned, molded and color casted prints intended for the Gen Scourge mold that was made. Honestly, the only painted parts were the eyes but I don't know what type of paint was used. I wanted to release more but it wasn't cost effective and took a long time to make so that was that. But as you can see, the results speaks for itself. I hope I answered your questions.

yeah that helps a lot. I think I'll go with Gen. actually. I'm curious if the Transformation stays together without the wings on that finished figure

The model was initially done as a gift for a friend who loves TF's and that character in particular. He's an homage but I'm glad TF fans seem to like him. More to come very soon.

You may want to ask Xaviercal as he was the one who I think had the idea of removing the wings. Enjoy.
