    Hi guys,

A few weeks ago I uploaded a picture on my Shapeways thread of a pretty little mace. I'm glad to announce that I've received my sample of the Megamace and boy, I'm so glad it came out awesome!

There are a ton of sharp edges and thin walls in this model, so I was half-afraid that it wouldn't pass Shapeways production rules. At least now I know that blade and sword designs are very much possible. Expect more awesome weapons in the future!

I've released the Megamace in 2 parts, the handle parts and the blade parts. This is so that you can order them in different materials, like Strong Flexible for A, and Transparent Detail for B. With these combinations you can pull off all sorts of interesting paint effects.

...like this. Clear violet paint and the edges are airbrushed with fluorescent violet. Yes, Megatron is macho enough to rock purple.

    Assembly
Pretty self explanatory. Sit one blade on the other until they form a "X" cross section. Gently slide the blade assembly into the setting atop the handle. Insert the spike into the hole on the top of the smaller handle piece. Connect both handle pieces with the connector.

    Attention:
Some materials would require cleaning before assembly. You have to do this to remove excess powder or support material otherwise the components will not fit. Use an exacto blade and trim the connection points to fit if you have to.

Also, this mace is not a toy. It's a model. There are a lot of spiky, fragile areas and the blades, relative to their surface area, are very thin. Take care during assembly and take care during posing. Don't give it to kids!

    Conclusion
I hope you guys like this one. I had really wanted to do this mace because there are a lot of axes for the good guy out there but the bad boy has little to arm himself with. I might make a next version with thicker blades later, who knows? Thicker blades will mean bigger handle setting, more material use which means higher costs. We'll see.

And yes, I realise a certain toy doesn't have hands to hold this mace with, even though it would look awesome doing it. This will be a project for next time...

Looks fantastic and I would be super tempted if WFC Megatron had the hands to hold it.

wow, that does look great! now that you know what shapeways can do as far as weapons with edges etc go, any chance you could design a purple sword like masterpiece megs, or maybe just a handle for the mp sword that henkei/united/classics megatron can hold? Since it's in 2 pcs like the mace, that might be a popular item as well?! You could sell them by pce like the mace...

Looks absolutely BAD ASS. Shame WFC Megs has those silly hands that can't wield it. Perhaps if one could mod new hands that fit inside the treads like those do, only form a fist instead after folding. Not sure if it's even possible with the limited space inside his treads.

Sweet! Can you make a shorter handle with a chain attachment as an option?

The mace is as nice as all your other projects. Good job. Incase you were wondering, SW says any edge that is greater than (pi/18)^r is a-okay, so if you err on the safe side, than (pi/12)^r should survive any printing, at least in the SF materials.

Many many thanks guys! Nice to see megamace get so much love :thumb

Hmm...a flame saber eh? Yeah it's a nice idea since there's no equivalent for the CHUG line. Let me look into it. Cadding flames could be an interesting (and nightmarish) experience.
What's the reason the MP sword cannot be used for standard figures? Is the handle too thin? Is it because of that chunk at the bottom of the handle?

    Same universe, I guess :)
I would think Prime Megatron would have more swoopy lines in his weapons, though.

I had that thought of replacing just the hands too, but I think it's impossible. The space is simply too small. To have mechtech compatible hands we will have to replace the entire forearm assembly. I'm still thinking of how to do that without destroying the entire arm. I don't really like how the current forearms are designed, anyway.

Possible too...I think I'll let the customers dremel that slot themselves :)
Actually, ironically, WFC Megs can hold onto cyberverse 3mm weapons..Who knew??

An energon flail? Actually that's a great idea! I've always been wanting to do something chain-like in Shapeways. I guess this is the right time :)

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know about that rule before.
It's funny because I have had models rejected for thin walls before and they look so much more stable than the mace. Really curious.
