This is probably the heaviest "Heavy/Scratch" I've ever attempted, and so far I think it's off to a good start. I never had a Trypticon as a kid, but always loved the character in the cartoon. Parts Used: > Legs: Optimal Optimus shoulders + lower legs/feet > Tail: Energon Grimlock + Optimal Optimus cockpit > Hips: Optimal Optimus torso and shoulders > Torso: Animated Wreckgar trailer + legs from Energon Hot Shot > Arms: Energon Grimlock + Neo Shifters parts + ball socket from LED light > Neck: Optimal Optimus hips > Head: Energon Grimlock head + Lego piece + GI Joe rifle and binoculars > Jetpack: Optimal Optimus jetpack Still very much a WIP. I think I have some of the transform to city and battlestation modes worked out, but not the details yet. Hope you like it! EDIT: added shot for size comparison HERE EDIT: added a new, larger Lego head HERE EDIT: new ramp tail, first shots of city mode and battle station mode HERE
have you thought of using some leo prime arms for tryps arms. the work out pretty well can post pics if you want me to.
On a side angle it looks and feels as if he is missing something i must admit, but on the other hand on angle shots he dos look good.
I totally agree. I had another head to try that was bigger but I felt that the sculpt wasn't nearly as good. What I like about this one is that he's got the basic shape down, has all the cannons, can turn and rotate up and down. I'll probably play around with some legos (today?) and see if I can't build a better sized one that looks as good from scratch. I'm assuming you guys are talking about the same thing and I agree, from the side he looks lanky. I think from angles and head-on he's pretty good, maybe could be a bit wider. I have a few pieces I've get to attach that takes away that gap between his back and the jetpack, will do so and take photos later. I have no idea, as I never had a G1 Tryp. But here's a size comparison with other Transformers I do have. He looks really good with Classics Seekers. Starscream: "I want my old body back!" Feel free! Or better yet point me to your custom post. I tried looking up stuff on Trypticon but only found a handful of customs done on him. I don't have a leo prime but I have a cybertron version of him somewhere... gonna really have to hunt to find him (EDIT: couldn't find him, I think I sold him awhile back, oh well). I think the arms I"ve got on him work fairly well except he needs more armor on the forearms. Thanks for the constructive crits! This is still very much a WIP but I'm excited about doing a good job on this one and finally getting a Trypticon!
Update: Made a new, larger head from Lego/Mega Bloks/Built to Rule pieces and am pretty happy with it.
Thanks! I'm working on a longer, more ramp-like tail plus a Brunt/Full Tilt set to go with him. I did a base coat of black on him this morning and the head really pops now.
Update: Shots with his ramp tail, made from parts from a junker Powermaster prime and some of the Optimal Optimus wings. Also shots of his city mode on my workbench and battle platform mode, and a few shots of him chewing on Wheelie.
love the city mode looks very industrial tail look good but i feel it could be longer are still doing a third mode? (edit) silly me thats what the second pic is. very interesting would like to see that loaded with tank treads
This is brilliant, not to mention that new head looks like it really belongs to Trypticon, shame they didn't reissue him in encore like they did Metroplex.
wow man, this is impressive, keep up the good work. The updates, pics and info make this mod magical!
I always love the big ones. Im a particular fan of the Op Op mold. but I gotta say you can do way better than that lego head. it should be a stand-in for what you want the end result to be like. if you can make that body and that ultra mag, I'm sure you can make a wicked head. (like man that ultra mag head was boss)
