So, I wanted Incinerator from the moment it was annouced that we were going to get an V-22 Osprey Transformer. I'm such an Aircraft junky. I was, however, quite disappointed when I found out he wouldn't be given friggin' hands, so I vowed that I would find a way to make it happen! Well, I've succeeded. So far I only have one actually done, but that's because I want to make a How-to for this modification, so I figured I should do one and make sure I don't encounter any kinks to my plans first, THEN do the other one and take pictures as I go along. As a bonus, I also painted his head to better match up with his box art, as well as give him proper decepticon eyes. Here's the box-art for those who don't remember: http://www.tfw2005.com/resources/attachment.php?do=fullview&attachmentid=2991 As you can see, very different from what we actually got! The mod is straight-forward. First, I chopped the front off right down a panel line that goes all the way around the arm. I then gutted out all the gears that propel the gimmick of the spinning props. Plowking was gracious enough to give me a pair of Alternators Sideswipe hands for this project, so thank so much, bro! I drilled a hole on the front of the bulbous protrusion by the large ratchet joint that is mid-forearm, and then cut a short piece of 1/8 inch styrene tubing, gluing that to the engine piece I'd chopped off earlier. I then took a small revoltech joint and glued it into that hole I drilled, and then used putty to cover the styrene tube, as well as on each side of the thick portion of the new joint, to help it all fit in. It basically just looks like a larger engine now is all. I used a panel scribe and added a few panel lines, matching them up with the existing ones on the arm to complete the modifications (external). For the inside, I used the ball socket from the Alternator arm, ground it way down, and glued it in place, and then filled the area up with putty so the arm looked solid. There was a nice bit of space beneath the hand, so I stuck in a couple short pieces of tube styrene here to give him some ranged weapons. I figure that with his bio, he'd use 'em to knock an opponent down so he could get in close to them to use his blades and hands to make the job more satisfying. The paints I used are Testors Ghost Grey (face and guns), clear red (visor) and a mix of mostly Gunship grey, with just a couple drops of flat black for the dark grey used to cover the putty. I've never had such an easy time mixing paint to match an existing color. soo happy! I hope you guys like it. I'm very happy with the now shorter arms, and the poseable hands! Oh, for transformation, you simply open the front end, and then rotate it on that peg (from the revoltech joint) so that it ends up sitting mid-arm. Its nice and snug, and if you did find it loose, a dash of future floor takes care of that.
Nice job, man, any other mods planned for this guy? I've heard of some problems people have had with the legs/feet, though hands already make this guy so much better.
thanks guys. not really. Sometimes the knee cap pieces are floppy, but only when you're man-handling him. I've not encountered any problems with the feet, not sure what that's about. By only other beef would be the tail, but dunno if I'll chop that up to fold up his back or not, I've not decided yet.
REDLINE, a super sweet mod. I mean as much detail as went into these guys, some of them look half designed. You've provided a great fix. and your execution looks flawless. Great work.
Hey "aircraft junky", V-22 Osprey . I love the various Incinerator hand mods people have put together. Yours, REDLINE, definitely takes the whole damn cake. This is by far the best hand mod I have seen. Wonderful job and keep it up!
correct me if im wrong but between the long arms and the face of this mold isn't it kind of remenicent of Ape Face? Ape face was some sort of air craft if my mental roladex is correct and with a few tweeks and new paint he could be a movie ape face. Awesome mod by the way. If i didn't have hands to touch......um... you get the point. I'd be a pretty angry bot.
thanks for the compliments guys OP - I AM human ya knows it was late and I was tired from closing at work. :S Only other hand mod I've seen is the one with hinges added into the propellers so they could bend like fingers. Oh well, I still figure to do the How-to in case anyone else wants to do this too. Its really not hard at all!
Great job! I find the forearms still end up being a bit too long, but I love the way the props end up on the outsides of his arms to be used as cutters or a rotating shield. Very nice... This is my favourite Incinerator-hands mod I've seen so far. I have a mod idea for Incinerator myself, but I've been busy the last couple of months so I haven't gotten beyond the mocked-up stage. It ends up being quite different than any of the other solutions so far, so at least nobody's scooped me yet. zmog
*L* well that's good, it always sucks to have that happen. and Thank you very much. They are a little too long, but not bad, just about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch if you go by human proportions... and CERTAINLY better than the original length!
That looks great, REDLINE! I'm still not to keen on this mold's long arms, but the hands you added really make the piece. I've looked this over a couple of times and passed it up, but you make me want to snag one and see what I can do with it. Keep up the great work, man.
nearly! too bad his pinky isn't separate from the ring finger hehehe Glad to know that there is actual interest in a how-to, means the work to make one wouldn't be a wasted effort. HXC - yeah, I was very unhappy when they first showed us robot mode shots of the guy. Almost to the point of writing him off completely, but I just reallllllly wanted a V-22 TF! Thankfully he's a fairly easy fix.
