      (part 2)

... But to merely flesh out skeletons into grey conservative dinosaurs is speculation in the opposite direction. So it's a tossup between reconstructions more lifeless and drab than any animal that ever existed, or so exaggerated and imaginary that it would be an amazing coincidence if they were half correct.

I've come across discussions like that in your link, and I know some artists favour feathers all the way down to the toes. It's quite interesting, and I don't entirely know what to make of it. I suppose if birds lost the feathers on their lower legs, it was presumably an adaptation for flight, their legs being 'landing gear', reduced in every way for weight and aerodynamics. And this clearly wasn't the case in many prehistoric dino/birds which we already know had 2 sets of wings, both arms and legs.

My PM box is full, so I'll reply to you here.

Like yourself, I don't claim any particular expertise, but do try to stay up-to-date on the subject.

For years I was a bit of a curmudgeon on the matter. I liked them scaly. I thought people were all too overzealous to throw feathers on dinosaurs on the most insubstantial evidence in the most off-balance, contortedly active poses they could come with. I didn't understand cladistics.

I don't know at what point I came around, but the case is pretty solid now. I don't think there's any use denying it. I'm still uncomfortable with the idea of inventive, speculative restorations of dinosaurs. Part of the appeal of dinosaurs is that they were real, and when they start turning into fantastical fantasy creatures, it's not quite the same. ...

Happens to the best of us, so no worries, and thanks...that's very mature of you very much appreciated. And I wasn't trying to dredge up old conflicts or anything, I've just been flooded with a ton of that stuff lately and finally decided to re-direct the tfw2005 troll-posse THIS way so they could hopefully stop derailing threads over it, at least. And I figured I might as well start at the beginning and respond to EVERYTHING, lol.

      No hard feelings whatsoever!

      :)

Sorry you feel many of my threads are far-fetched, but I'll gladly try to clear up anything you think is particularly "reaching" if you care to continue the conversation in those threads. Glad to hear you don't have a problem with a few, at least.

As for that thread in particular, whether or not others have noticed my observations is wholly immaterial, and most of the intentional innuendo I detailed there is hardly "hidden," it's generally quite blatant, in fact. Likewise, I'm not here to repair relations between divided factions of a fanbase nor is the schism there my responsibility, so that's really very much beside the point and irrelevant.

Additionally, my writing style and tone is what it is. Sorry if you have issues with it, but it's not my problem.
