Yeah, whatever happened to Bakker? Why couldn't he have interceded in JPIII and just been all like "T.Rex wins. Screw you, Horner." :lol

It ticks me off more and more every time I watch the special features. :banghead:

      :lol Good name.

      talking of T-rex with tylermirage?
    6. TylerMirage

That's what I like to hear! Every book of mine basically says that about good ol' Rex. I find it ridiculous that apparently "longest" also means "most ferocious and tough and strong" amongst some palaeontologists. :lol Seriously. Watch the bonus features of JPIII and Jack Horner (or should I say Hack Horner! Ha!) says the following about Spinosaurus: "If we base its ferocity on the length of the creature, there is, and will never be anything as ferocious as a predator...what is basically the size of a whale walking around, eating things."

"If we base its ferocity on the length of the creature..."

"If we base its ferocity on the length of the creature..."

"If we base its ferocity on the length of the creature..."

Like, seriously. What kind of logic is that? Is the tallest president the best politician? The brightest car the fastest? When I first heard Horner say that years ago, that was my first inclination that he was crazy. ;)
    7. TylerMirage
      TylerMirage
Yeah. I'm no expert, but the scientific consensus that I've heard is that Rex had strength, speed and intelligence going for him over those others.
    8. TylerMirage
      TylerMirage
Yeah, that's how I always say it too. They were longer, but built lighter. All of these articles about "a new king", "new predator bigger than Rex" and stuff fail to elaborate that yes, these allosaurids, carcharodontosaurs, etc., were longer (and in Giga's case, heavier probably too), but all around, pound-for-pound, Tyrannosaurs were just f**king tanks compared to them.
    9. TylerMirage
      TylerMirage
Yeah, they never struck me as being big and brawny like Tyrannosaurs, but I figured that a full grown one might reach 40-42 feet and 5-6 tons.

      :lol

Oh, and speaking of a previous topic of ours (constantly changing ideas and theories), I don't know if you've been following Carcharodontosaurus lately, but in the past like, year or two I've seen the size/weight estimates for him fluctuate so much! One month he's 37 feet long, the next he's 43 feet. One month he's "4 tons at most" and the next month he's "a thousand pounds heavier than a full grown T.Rex". Gosh. I can't keep up. ;)
    12. TylerMirage
      TylerMirage
Huh, I never knew that he held that belief. I hadn't even heard of/thought of that "path to dying out"-theory before.
    13. TylerMirage
      TylerMirage
      :lol Fair enough.

      Yeah, a smaller, earlier ancestor.

And I'm not trying to say that T.Rex wasn't a scavenger - after all, who wouldn't take a free meal if you stumbled upon it? But when you have bone marks and T.rex-inflicted wounds on ceratopsians that show healing (aka, they were attacked when they were still alive), it kind of proves that it was an active hunter too. When you're smart, have good eyesight, good sense of smell, the fastest large theropod around and the biggest f**king predator in your neighbourhood, you have the skill to hunt, but the attitude to steal food from anyone. My theory is basically that scavenging probably only consisted of 20-40% of a the food-gathering-methods of Tyrannosaurs.

And I literally read an article in the paper today regarding Phil Currie (Royal Tyrell Musuem) and his most recent Daspletosaurus find. The article said something about "even more recent studies have shown that Tyrannosaurus was even faster than previously thought" (or something along those lines).

It just seems that Horner holds very strong opinions that not too many other paleontological minds share. Horner: "PROBLEM? U MAD, T.REX FANS?"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that Horner is a hack. :lol Well, okay, maybe not a "hack", but I disagree with a lot of his opinions. But then again, he's the world-renowned palaeontologist, not me. (I mean seriously, Tyrannosaurus Rex a scavenger? Slow? Why on Earth would he think that?!?!) From what I know/believe, Nanotyrannus would not be a "young Rex".

It would be the Jetfire of the Tyrannosaurs! :D (Let the awesomeness soak in...)
    15. TylerMirage
      TylerMirage
Hmm, I don't recall hearing that little bit of info. But it sort of makes sense; don't most reptiles (or at least crocodilians) grow throughout their lives too? Not surprising that Tyrannosaurs would do the same. Imagine if one lived to be over 50 years old! If Sue was 28 (if I recall correctly), then a 50 year old... phew...that's a big dino. ;)

But yeah, every month when I check wikipedia and other sites regarding dinosaurs, something new and interesting has come up.

Hey, dino-bud, we need your expertise in the General Discussion forums regarding dinosaurs. ;) I've already said my piece, now we need you.

Actually they're there still. They're just pointed directly at the camera so they blend in with the normal robo bits on his back.
