Still, that's pretty much inline with Nintendo's strange habit of releasing several versions of their portable consoles.

Is it really that strange from the Pocket Gameboy, or the Gameboy Micro? When you stop to think about it, it actually makes sense (design is fugly though).

well, those of us with 3dsxl's have nothing to worry about in terms of upgrading for a few more years now I guess :lol

Seems like it is for the kiddies whose parents cannot afford a regular 3DS or are afraid of the 3D effects, still... why is it one large piece?

    Can't say that's a Nintendo Handheld I'd buy.
Just when I thought Nintendo was the king of handhelds they give us the gamebrick 2.0

As someone whp can't watch 3D for a long time without his eyes hurting, I'm a little interested in this. At a £109.99, I may buy this I can afford it.

3D gives me a headache, but if mine broke, I'd go with the XL over this thing.

It clearly isn't designed for adults. Nintendo said in the announcement that they're aiming for younger children, as in younger than 6. So I think Nintendo is aiming this to compete with leap frog devices so the design makes sense.

I'd buy this for my son once he's old enough to play games and I'm sure with this out Nintendo is gonna churn out games designed for learning and development.

As an idea it works for young kids, people who don't like 3d or people who don't have much to spend. The only problem is the design. It will sell because day 1 is the same day as pokemon. So people who want pokemon but don't want to throw down 200 dollars will buy this.

Don't see a problem with it personally. It's clearly made for parents who don't feel comfortable having their children stare at a 3D portable console for hours on end. I know my boss at work just bought his 5 year old a 3DS XL and has taped the 3D on and off switch up with electrical tape so he can't access it.

Many people have said they would buy Pokemon X/Y if 3DS was cheaper. They are releasing a cheaper 3DS the same day as Pokemon. It's actually pretty genius.

I understand the 3D aspect perfectly. Perhaps you can help me out by explaining to me why they decided to make it one large piece that doesn't fold down to prevent scratching and makes it harder to lug around for a kid. Because we know kids always treat their stuff with the utmost care. :p
