Agreed. Highly doubtful Hasbro will do the rest of the FoC Dinobots. In all honestly, I'm glad they're not. I prefer someone else to tackle a game accurate figure than Has/Tak. As for doing the Wreckers, Hasbro already release an FoC incarnation of the Wreckers/Ruination, or is that particular lore not concurrent?
I don't think we can make sense of Hasbros business logic. If indeed there is any to begin with. It just leads to theories that we've been overthinking & over analyzing, leading to guesses beeing taken as facts. Clearly they can do them, and they are liked in the fan community - but it's Hasbro, so let's not get our hopes up.
i think that hasbro/takara sould release either more combiners as in example Constructicons,Aerialbots as a full giftset. like the SDCC Grimlock vs Bruticus Set, that would just be dope. how about something along the lines of the other 4 remaining dinos in G1 color exlucisive to a SDCC, and they can make shared exclusive like Fruticus in G2 color and last retail color.
It's to bad that we have multiple 3rd party companies doing the same combiners when one of them can be serious about making a Dinobot team.
I was actually referring to the fact that they did the Wreckers period was a bit of a chance. Aside from say Springer, the rest of the cast is pretty much nobodies. Especially Impacter. That really doesn't matter though to kids, it's really collectors that would have an issue.
I'm with you on this one, Alucard. Hasbro really has no excuse for not making the Dinobots. They're freaking first-season characters, Hasbro has updated everyone else. They're afraid of having five similar characters on the shelf at the same time? Fine, that's valid. Make them one at a time. C'mon, Hasbro. Make one Dinobot who isn't Grimlock and see what happens.
Perhaps Hasbro doesn't see a media-tie in anytime soon, so they don't want to commit to 4-5 new moulds. Remember when High Moon studios said that hasbro had no intention of revisiting the dinobots, back in FOC, and they had to beg to get them in the game? And yes, they can't be repainted into much else. All these wacky japanese dino characters many of you mentioned are way too obscure to appeal to any children. I believe Black Shadow from Thunderwing was the exception to the rule so far. With the exception of the BH Predacons, Hasbro does favour realistic, or semi realistic at least, vehicles to beasts. FOC Bruticus had a tie-in game, and the main draw of the set was the ability to combine into Bruticus. Dinobots do not, traditionally, combine, so that's one less market appeal.
That and alphatrion SEROUSLY arcee and alphatrion both not just majour characters in the tv show both have never seen g1 versons of them shevels though i would'nt complain if we seen them in there idw form to note i never count 3rd party and exclusives e.g. botcon and club as actuly knocking the characters off the list so punch/counter punch need a uniqe mold with out small head syndrom
Anyone got the link to that panel discussion where Hasbro said that a) they were surprised noone had asked about repaint costs until now and b) that the cost of producing a repaint vs a new mold is about the same?
I don't know why either. I lost my Grimlock to a little visitor to my apartment, along with Bulkhead and Bumblebee. He loved the T. rex. As far as mold reuse there are plenty of recent molds that never got reused.
How well did dinobots sell last time they were offered in Animated? I am pretty sure Grimlock flew off the shelves, but I remember seeing Snarl pegwarm in multiple locations (and sometomes up until very recently). And that was back when deluxes were $10. I have a feeling that if Hasbro would do a new set of dinobots, the remaining 4 would be al deluxe class to save costs. Would scale obsessed collectors really want Trailcutter-sized dinobots? Personally, I wouldn't mind, but I can see the fan-rage now.
I guessed you didn't see the post about Planet X making the Dinobot team, FoC Swoop being the first amongst that project (with the current exception of Grimlock, but it hasn't been confirmed nor denied if they are making him ... yet )
Given the inherent similarity of three of the Dinobots' alt-modes and robot modes, and seeing that hasbro can go pretty far with remolding figures (Sandstorm/Springer), it should be a simple matter for Slag, Sludge and Snark to share a base mold. Obviously don't release them at the same time, but there's three uses of the mold.
but that's what an opinion is: it's my perspective. And when answering a question that is asking us for opinion about why something doesn't exist it's the only thing we can give. A few things in response to this. Skullgrin is a redeco of that Straxus with a new head... so. In response to Thunderwing, Sky Shadow, Darkmount(Straxus). They are each one figure in different waves and even then they were released in the last few years. Who else have been on that list? All the big names and there are still many that have yet to be released. I could see the Dinobots being released but the main focus seems (that's seems not is)to be a rather limited chance to re-sculpt into something new. Obviously, HAsbro will do the collector/ older fan a solid and release things like this but would they commit themselves to four characters that have iffy track records. Say what you will but Grimlock is seen as a popular character behind Optimus and Starscream. It's why he has two figures in that C/U/G line. Again, what would Snarl, Slag, and Sludge be retooled into that Hasbro believes would sell? Swoop would sell as a redecoed Terrorsaur I think. But I could be wrong. As someone said before, look at how the Animated Dinobots sold. Hasbro takes that into account. Now this... makes a lot of sense. Oh Hasbro has many excuses, but I agree with you. I would challenge Hasbro to make one of the four Dinobots. Heck, hedge your bet and make it Swoop and then see how it performs. Three exclusive figures due to them being made right when the line got cancelled? Hey This, I'm already in line for these figures. God Bless the Third Party Unlicensed. Having said all that. A thought has occurred to me. Hasbro seems to have taken a decidedly different view to the CUG line. Where as before it was a line that Hasbro treated as a low risk secondary line. In the last several years they seem to have put more of a focus on it. They have made a considerable effort to appeal to the adult fan and taking the chance that lesser known characters will sell. (The DArkmount, Thunderwing, Metro, DoubleDealer, Wrecker etc). However, they still hedge their bet some by making sure they can either redeco off of the mold or the character itself is a redeco of a mold of a more popular character. WE could see Dinobots, I sincerely hope we do. I'll put them beside my Planet X and FOC Grimlock with love and honor. I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate as to why we don't have them now.
I think it's largely the issue of releasing multiple "similar" toys. ... Similar in color scheme and alt mode. They only did Kickback, no other Insecticons during FOC. Sharpshot's coming much later and at a different pricepoint. Beasts being lower sellers and possible limited built-in repaint potential may be additional factors on the side. Nope, because no one has links to figments of your imagination.
