He's decent but actually kinda weak when compared to the newer mp figures (#10+). As people have mentioned the tail wag feature really compromises the whole toy. Oh and that annoying non articulated LED hand, blah. Still a cool toy though but certainly not best ever. MP10 is obviously best ever.

 

I think MP-01/04 might be better suited for such a title. It was the first entry in the Masterpiece line, a very imposing figure with loads of detail. It was a big deal at the time to have a large scale G1-styled Optimus Prime with articulation. I know many have moved on to MP-10, but there's just something special about the old MP-01/04 mold.

 

He makes the top 5. I'd be hard pressed to pick another TF if I could only have one. But there might be some sentimental bias in the mix for sure.  

 

he is awesome BUT not without flaws. i don't mind the gimmicks actually. I think its hip joints could be better. i think some people have reported him doing the splits on occasion. Also his shoulder articulation is limited, and of course the biggest gripe....he scales with nothing except the classics bots (not his fault obviously but takara's lack of direction at the time).

 

So much love for MP-10...I guess I'm the only one who isn't enamored with it lol...nothing wrong with that though, to each their own.

 

I don't know if he's the best ever but definitely in my top five. No figure is perfect so the tail wag flaw doesn't really knock it down that far.

Grimlock is the absolute WORST example to illustrate the concept that Masterpiece are not toys for children. he's got the siplest transformation in the line, Is chunky and durable and LOADED with kid friendly gimmicks. Light up sword. Light up gun. Snapping jaw in dino mode. Wagging tail/turning head in dino mode. Dress up as a waiter/king option. He's more of a toy than any MP, with the nearest competitors being Prime and Rodimus with their trailers and they aren't nearly as much fun.

 

Awesome figure? Yes, absolutely. The greatest figure? No, not even remotely. Especially not compared to virtually all the new-mold Masterpieces that have come since MP-08. Truth be told, there's still quite a few tweaks that could/should be done to MP-08 that would make it infinitely better.

 

mp grimlock is my favorite figure for sure. but i'm not sure if it is the best ever. we've gotten some really great figures the last couple of years.

 

In terms of Masterpiece, he is my favorite yes, then followed my MP-01 and Sideswipe.

In terms of Transformers, he got detronned as the best recently by Quakewave, but he is still one of my favorites, and want the rest of the dinobots too to get the best team ever in transformers world. His Alt form is absolute perfection, and I do love the gold on him. Oh, and Takara one only!!! Forget about the Hasbro one.

Oh, and me Grimlock want to munch metals.....  

 

nah, mp-10 onwards i like better, but he's in the top 10, the tail wag gimmick kinda bugs me.

I agree. Which is why I own both the Takara and Hasbro versions, as well as MP-10B. Once my Grimlock arrives, I may change my mind, but I doubt it.

 

MP Grimlock is definitely the best in my opinion. Absolutely perfect figure and I love all the gimmicks and accesories too. Especially the waiter garb.

 

while it might be the simplest of the masterpieces, i don't know, i do not have one. but just by looking at the pictures, it surely still has a bunch of easily broken parts. i can see that, just by looking at those arms.

besides, the tail, and light up gimmicks, would of also, droven me away as a child. while i liked the electronics ones as a kid, i didn't like the gimmicks that often came with the beast wars figures i got at 10 years old. that often were intrusive to the figure. example; megatron's tongue. or the arms of optimus primal.

face it, masterpiece figures are not made for kids. they are made for adult collectors. while i probably would enjoy having a mp grimlock, i wouldn't be playing with it too much. even as an adult. not with that high price tag. i'd be too afraid of breaking something. it isn't like a 10 dollar toy, where i can easily replace it, if it breaks.

 

Beast Wars Quickstrike is the best Transformers ever. He looks exactly like he does in both modes and you can transform him in 5 seconds.

 

Eh. Not really.

I just got mine and the joints in his knees are strong enough to support all of his weight in certain poses. I kinda wish they were as ridiculously tight as Soundwave's. I also feel that the balljoints in his robot mode arms/alt mode legs are a tiny bit limited for posing.

 

As greatest TF I'm not too sure of that but as the greatest MP...hell yeah.

I sold off mine sometime ago & I still misses it every now and then..
