My mom always gives me crap. She's always like, "Why do you collect these toys? Look at how much money you've wasted." Then again, I tell her, "Atleast I don't spend it on drugs and alcohol." I say this mainly because I'm 19 and that's pretty much what all my graduating class does. But on the other end of the spectrum my mom always tells people I'm going to be rich when I'm older with all the collectible stuff I have.

Last summer I was at a cookout at my Girlfriend's Aunt's house. Somehow my Transformers collecting came about in a conversation and my girlfriend's cousin said, "Why would you waste all your money on those stupid little kiddy toys." I politely said, "Atleast I don't waste my money on alcohol every day." That shut her up. Since she's turned 21 all she does is brag about getting wasted all the time with her friends.

And my last note, one time at Wal-Mart I picked up an entire set of Marvel Legends for some friends on the internet. The (cute) cashier asked if I collected Marvel stuff, she said her dad collected Marvel stuff and has an entire room dedicated to it. I thought it was really cool.

Right now there's only one person that's not realy fine with me collecting TFs and that's my great grandmother. But everyone else is fine with it and some of them thinks it's realy cool.
For example, some days ago the whole family gathered and those meetings tend to become rather boring so "childish" as I am to nature I had brought classics Megs and two of my male relatives ended up all "bigeyed" and then as I had TFd him into bot mode they're like: That's awesome

Otherwise I don't get as much comments from kids my age anymore.
Occasionaly someone asks why I collect and I just respond with: Well everyone needs a hobby and this suits me just fine. Then one of my fellow classmates said that he'd never be able to collect "toys" I took him into a study room, turned on a computer and searched the forums for picks of MP05 Megatron and told him all about it, finaly he had to admit that it was pretty cool :p

    You tell 'em!:lol :lol

On another note, yes, sometimes I do get the "Why are you still into this silly things?"term. All of my friends are cool with it and some of the girls that I know thinks it's cool.Yes,that's what they said,cool......I usually go to my usual toy store were most of the employees know me.(I'm the one that buys most of the TF's there:D ) So the have no problems with me.There are times that strangers tend to look at me grabbing 5-6 boxes of TF's in the basket.I responded saying" I collect these things..." And there's always assholes that will try and get the chance to insult my hobby but I usually reply with a smart comment:D :D

I get a lot of grief over it. But the only ones that really get to me are the ones that somehow equate playing with toys with some weird sexual fetish. It's like, so much of their life is wrapped up in sex and how to get it, that they can't possibly imagine doing something without somehow making it about sex. The common accusation is that I play with toys to entice children into having sex with me. False accusation throws me for a loop every time, but this is one of those things where, once someone accuses you of it, that's it. Anyone who hears it assumes it's true and you're forever labelled as, "That pervert who uses toys to trap children."

The other crap I get about them I can ignore. But that one makes me want to beat people with Fort Max.

Same here, They never shut up about it, my dad's cool with it, just the rest of them that hate it.
I frequently get ridiculed at school for being a TF Fan, im used to it by now, I've put up with it since I started High School. Though Im not the only TF Fan in my class, the other one gets more stick than me, but he usually tries to shift the comments on to me with some comment like 'He spent £200 pounds on one figure', which gets him even more ridicule, as all my class knows I've never spent more that £25 on a figure.

My maths teacher is a semi-fan, he remembers the originals, and remembers liking them, but is more interested in Warhammer.

One of the nicest things you can ever find in your life is a woman (or relationship partner, for those that swing the other way) who isn't judgmental about your hobbies or interests. Although it's nice to have a girl that is into those same interests right along with you, life usually doesn't work that way (although Arcee & Motormaster, here on the boards, seem to have that taken care of.)

...but, honestly...If someone you're interested in simply shrugs or is lightheartedly amused by your interest in Transformers or another hobby, don't get defensive - revel in it. That's not grief, that's flirting.

I get crap about it from time to time, usually from my boss and in the past from gals I've dated, although my argument is always why does what I do for fun bother you so much, it hurts no one and its fun and its something thats been a part of my life for years. I think when you stop being able to have fun and enjoy things like that in your life, then whats the point? Plus my boss is a gun nut who buys all kinds of guns which I mean, instruments of death or a pretend gun that turns into a robot, seems like a no brainer to me.

Heh heh. If my parents ever mention grandkids, I tell em to look at my younger sister. She's first in line. That shuts em up pretty quick.

I've never actually gotten grief about it... my parents don't really get it, but they don't care either... I've shown my brother a few and he was pretty impressed - especially the alternators. My girlfriend got me Classics Jetfire for Christmas... she's thinks it's cute.

I say "Ya, I collect them! Soooo what!"

And with my friends, I follow it up with..."someday MY Transformers are gonna be worth more than YOUR collection of empty beer cans!"

I get it from my mum occasionally. I dont really get given crap about it anymore, but when Iw as in year 8 and 9 (4 years ago) there used to be a lot more abuse. Now people just tend to accept it, say "thats interesting", and get on with it

I don't think I've ever been given grief as such for my tastes - maybe a bit of banter from my other half (who I've been with for the better part of nine years, I might add), but I shut her up by reminding her who bought me BT Hound and the reissue G1 Prime... :p

Besides, it's been my experience that when people hear the word 'Transformers', they usually come out with "cool, I used to have loads of them when I was a kid" or something along those lines. Even my older brother, who's cracking on for 40 and is a bit of a Subaru nut, was blown away when I bought him Alt. Silverstreak for his birthday. :thumb

    My wife does jokingly.

I stopped into a K-Mart once to get something and stopped by the TF aisle. There was another gentlemen that looked slightly older than me looking at TFs as well. A lady friend with him was giving him shit about it (he proclaimed that transforming robots will never cease being cool) and then she asked me how old I was (the whole time have the "I'm a super bitch"-iness about her).

I've never accually gotten harassed about my hobby, a bit of light hearted fun, and all that, alot of comments about how cool some of them are (I keep my Alt collection at work.)

Those that do tell you, you need a life, or worse, are just trying to cover up their own shortcomings by trying to make themselves look bigger then you. Just shrug it off and keep doing what makes you happy, it is only words.

I don't get a lot of grief... in fact I was in Argos gtting an Alt a couple of years ago and a guy about my age served me and thought it was pretty cool, commenting that it was a lot different to the TFs he remembers!

As for my family, the only complaint is about me running out of room to store them - that will change when I get my own place this year. My nephew thinks my interest in TFs is great - then, he is only 3. ;)

I'd best not mention the vast Lego collection though! :D

Well, I have had for something similar at my job this year. A new old teacher looked how I was clasifying some of my Japanese TF's cars. She was totally amazed and she asked "What's that?" I told him what they were, and then she asked "And where did you get them from?" (Please notice how she got into something that was not of her bussiness). I explained my hobbie and she said:

But, that't not normal???? I mean, It's nt normal to collect those things.

I just laughted in front of her. I learned some time ago that I have to consider those people as the half of the world that will never get along with me. On the other side, I learned not to take importance about those people who think that just because you an "adult" you are not supposed to do some things.

I feel happy with my hobbie, I prefer to spend my money on TF's than in smoking or drinking or any other things that are supposed for "adult and mature people"

    :p

I got randomly slammed for my robot love. I was in a checkout line with my friend, who was buying the latest Family Guy DVD set and I was poking fun at him for buying that instead of the new TFTM DVD (it's sort of an inside joke because I don't really like Family Guy).

Some guys behind us in line heard us, followed us into the parking lot and started bashing on me for not liking Family Guy and decided to tell me how stupid Transformers are.

    Wow. Touchy.

Not grief, really, just poking fun at me. A friend of mine stopped over today, and I showed his 2.5 y/o daughter how Trypticon, Sky Lynx, and Omega can walk all by themselves. His response was "Where'd you get those ugly things, the island of misfit toys??", his daughter's response was sheer terror...she ran out of the toy room immediately.

Y'know, since Beast Wars, not once that I can remember? Maybe I took a little heat behind my back, but with no way to prove it I can't reasonably sweat it. Everyone who's seen me with one and asked me about it has been satisfied with those two little words: "I collect".
