Since i compared Captain America to Batman, Steel to Iron Man, Thor to Captain Marvel (Shazam), Lobo to Wolverine etc.

I was wondering if anyone thinks Silver Surfer is similar to GL as much as Jubilee is like Robin and Hulk kind of like Superman?

I mean for Hulk and Superman comparisions are they both powered by radiation and are the most powerful beings in their uinverses, both Bruce Banner and Clark Kent being kind of alike, both Leader and Lex Luthor being similar, both sidekick pals Rick Jones and Jimmy Olson, Doomsday being like Abomination and all that?

Are Silver and Green both cosmic powered?

Are both Jubilee and Robin teenage friends of the much gruff and dark edged hero of their universe?

You pretty much found the only similarities these characters have with each other. How do those one instances makes them similar?

And once again, is your only reason for comparing them because of the DC/Marvel crossovers of the 90s.

Oh come on, are we doing these again?

As I have stated so many times in the past, for you, specifically, your comparisons are superficial at best and ignore the bulk of each character, along with a complete abandonment of their nuances. Hell, I ALREADY compared Hulk to Superman for you a year ago!

HordakFan, I'd like to introduce you to a website called TV Tropes.

TV Tropes is a wonderful website that examines characters and situations from all kinds of media(tv, movies, books, video games, etc). They point out similarities where they exist. I think you'll really like it.

To get you started, here is the starter page for Green Lantern.

    False.

You can go to TV Tropes, if you want, but please don't bring that shit back with you.

Sorry to go off the thread topic, but I would like to know(and not in an antagonistic way, really, I'm just curious) what don't you like about TV Tropes?

Not that there is much of a topic to derail, lol.

I find tv tropes to be intellectually lazy, especially for posting on the internet. Rather than make a self-informed opinion on something through your own research and deductive skills, you can go to TV tropes and find tons of cue little categories to supposedly explain everything. Basically it over-analyzes everything to the point that the analysis has no meaning. Just look at the GL page you posted, there is a category for every little aspect of the book.

I'm not saying this is you, nor am I saying that the site isn't without its merits, but it's frequent use by internet posts has become a bad meme of its own.

That is a very fair and balanced assessment, smkspy. Thank you for elaborating without getting hostile. Cheers!

    smkspy covered it, nicely.

I've just seen TV Tropes overused by people to try to validate their posts/opinions.

With all that being said, given HordakFan's tendancy to micro-compare characters based on a single similarity, TV Tropes is likely a website he'll enjoy.

Marvel vs DC got a lot of match ups, well wrong. Thor is Marvel's equivalent to Superman. Or more properly Hyperion or now days Sentry. Nova is Marvel's equivalent to Green Lantern.

Marvel vs DC was a popularity contest more than an actual battle of heroic equivalents. The closest one they got in the main battles was Captain America vs Batman. Other than that probably Flash vs Quicksilver which wasn't voted on.

Honestly Avengers Vs JLA was the better of the Marvel DC crossovers compared to Marvel vs DC. There is no way in heck Wolverine could beat Lobo. Lobo can really regenerate from a drop of blood. Heck typically there will be multiple versions and they will fight each other to the death to become the real main man. Plus Lobo can take on Superman. Marvel vs DC was a joke.

No the whole fan voting for wins was the joke. It's why a lot of the match ups, and out comes, were so ridiculous.

While the matchups were indeed poor and the voting wasn't accurate - I think we have to admit that back in the day - it was really a huge thing. It was a fun little crossover meant to get people to talk about it - plus we got Amalgam out of it. I think we lack the sort of fun comics we used to get back in the day. These days its all gloom and doom and extreme violence.

I've got one. Batman and Daredevil. Both brooding vigilantes at night, in the day they are public figures. Plus Frank Miller wrote for both of them.

That's a pretty interesting comparison, actually. Both street-crime focused vigilantes, stemming from a childhood trauma where they were orphaned due to criminal violence and a dedicated, determined self-transformation into a symbol that strikes fear into criminals. Both have romantic issues, unable to form a healthy relationship due to their dual identity and entangled over and over with a criminal lady. They're both wealthy, professional, and respected in one identity, and feared, misunderstood, and negatively viewed by authorities in the other (though loved by the populous they protect). They both use martial arts and specialized, identifiable tools in their fight against crime.

Even when they differ, it's an interesting comparison. Batman was born into fortune, and has used that to fund his war on crime. Daredevil was born into the lower class, and built himself into a professional and a fighter from the streets up (finding great teachers along the way). Batman is a human being, but trained to a razor's edge, whereas Daredevil is limited in terms of sight (something that helps him maintain his secret identity), but superhuman in all other senses. Batman seems to have lost respect for the law, and fights crime based on a moral code to establish his own order on the world. Daredevil, by comparison, believes strongly in the rule of law and fights to uphold it by day, and to rebuild it into a more just form, but understands its limitations and fights to protect those who fall through the cracks by night.
