I remember there was a huge discussion about this in General Discussion.

My own opinion: size dimorphism. We associate size with gender (just like we associate voice with gender), so it's not surprising that ends up being expressed in the designs.

Arcee and Airachnid have an excuse since they're alt modes are small(er), but size dimorphism is seen almost every series all the way back to G1.

Course, they don't have to do it. As a kid, I totally thought Starscream was a girl in G1 because his voice was so high. Judging from TFP Starscream's design, I'm not the only one that thought that  


Edit: Arcee and Airachnid are about the size size when standing on their feet (Airachid is a tad bit taller).

 

Her alt mode IS a Helicopter BUT it's a stealth recon Helicopter. THey're pretty small usually one man craft capable of high speed and surprisingly maneuverable.

 

Her alt mode is a helicopter, but those things aren't "get down in the streets as a one-man vehicle" small. The closest model to her design is the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche, which is 46.85' in length and 11.06' in height. Compared to a muscle car (Using the 5th gen Camaro for comparison), it's 190.4" in length, 75.5" in width, and 54.2" in height. So, yeah. Airachnid should be huge.

 

Starscream ought to be huge too. How is an F16 jet the same size (even scrawnier, actually) than an Aston Martin?

Just can't get too worked up about size- like Knockout shouldn't have been able to fit two adult humans in the trunk of his car with room to spare. Not unless it's the largest Aston Martin ever.  

And Arcee ought to have been like...4 meters tall max.

 

she an infiltration unit. so of course she is small, big bot arent really suitable for sneaking around.

plus being small doesnt deterior her ability to kick butt as long as she doesnt get hit by a bot twice of her size. (like getting ram by an insecticon)

Airachnid isn't small by Autobot standards, 'cuz she turns into a helicopter. Hell, she isn't that small by 'Con standards, either - Knock Out's still the smallest 'Con.

Plus, yannow, she's creepy as hell.

 

This thread only serves to remind me that after all that, we only got the token girl and her token girl rival all throughout the series...not one other female that talked that was cybertronian >,>.

Oh and Strika, son. Game over.

 

In vehicle mode I guess, but in Robot mode Knock Out dwarfs her. Also, in Metal Attraction, we see Bulkhead just grab her while in helicopter mode and..she was kind of like a toy, not really that big. We gotta keep in mind that she's a ONE person STEALTH helicopter, not big at all

 

Yeah, she's a one person helicopter, but her helicopter model is huge, which is supposed to dwarf Bulkhead's alt mode, if not Prime. For measurements, refer to my post below.

 

You know what, it is interesting. I would like a optimus sized female bot.

Yeah i'd love to see her as a main lead for a change. im kind'a sick of the big red Truck / Ape / wierd flaiming face takeing psycho.
I see her as a Janewayesk leader.

 

Honestly I'd love to see ANY fembot be leader of an Autobot team for a change but Hasbro's not likely to have this happen for a show for obvious reasons. Hopefully there's a chance of that happening in the comics.

 

Tell me about it to me Prime has goten kinda stale. we need a show with out the big 4.
