That's right. I can't stand being called a Geewunner.

Now, GEEWUNNA, on the other hand, I like to call all my Gewunnaz Geewunna. And they call me Geewunna too. Taking a negative, turning it into a positive.

 

I think the general impression of a "Geewunner" is someoenw ho's such a purist they don't like anything post 86 or so.

Maybe no so much now, but just check ATT's archives and you'll find plenty of posts just like that, with plenty of people hating on BW and it's fans. The whole "Geewunner" thing seems to come from people who weren't active in the forums back then (since they were probably kids), who join up with the fandom, and find out that some people didn't like "their" Transformers. So, in turn, they become reactionary. And it's not just Beast wars fans, it's UT fans, Animated fans, and now Movie and Prime fans. When someone tells them "their" transformers isn't as good as what they like or that it's not a "real" series,they become a bit disenfranchised. Then they either learn to deal with it, or become really reactionary and start hating on things and it all becomes a shouting match.

Also, it's been over 15 years since Beast Wars started. No one who watched it back then is a tween anymore

I don't get why they love the G1 cartoon so much. Yeah, I get it. You grew up with it. I grew up on the Unicron trilogy, but you don't see me saying its the best thing ever.

I'll say it. The G1 cartoon SUCKED. It's 80's nonsense and garbage rolled ito a poorly-animated cartoon made to sell toys. (But isn't that what all Transformers media is durr de durr). Better cartoons have happened. Animated. Beast Wars. Cybertron. Hell, even Prime and the movies are better. It's just some dusty piece of discarded feces left in an alleyway. Get over it.

 

Let's put it this way; for a LOT of people, the G1 cartoon was what launched their hobby which has been a recurring part of their lives for decades. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, too. Whether it was G1 or any other series that made an impression on you first, the good memories from it can override anything that were minor squabbles when you were a kid or at least younger; whether it be three different origins for the Constructions, a lack of shadows, awkward dubbing, etc.

 

Oh no, WAY. BACK. THEN? Well gee whiz, then that more than justifies noob forum members to keep bringing it up and whining about other supposed whiners now... nearly 20 years and 5-6 other series later

it all started with g1 then went into transformers animated which all happened before beast wars see ep 1 and see beast wars characters for exzample then small amount of time later it leads onto there ships ending up in the past starting the beast wars.

 

I like the point some of these guys are making though... It is kind of true that now the "Geewunner" is an archetype. It's an idea that doesn't so much exist in the form it is thought to. It's a mythical creature. Usually used as a generic strawman in arguments to target certain ideas for skewering by younger fans. And you really don't see G1 fans doing the same thing.

You know why? My argument is that even though the G1 toon and comics weren't good per se, G1 has been vindicated through what has come since, which has essentially admitted that the core concept has true merit.

 

Beast Wars kinda stank until G1 characters showed up.

 

As a die hard fan of Beast Wars...

...yeah, pretty much. It wasn't bad, but there was a lot of stuff that just didn't really go all that well in the first season, because it was too episodic and "generic cartoon" instead of a continuous storyline in scope. That continuous storyline really began with the alien stuff near the end of the first season, and IMO the second season's first episodes are the peak of the series. They're among some of the best scripted TF stuff, IMO. That's not to say the later stuff is bad, but when G1 shows up it does start writing itself somewhat.

Ravage's appearance in The Agenda and the related episodes are another high point of the series, though.

 

But it's not just about Beast Wars it's fans. There's plenty of Animated and UT fans and so on that cry Geewunner, too, and there's been people who've complained about newer series since then. That's what continues the cycle, unfortunately. It's not just a group of Beast Wars fans persecuting anything G1, you know.

How petty. I understand treating people who act like whining kids as children, but if you're going to think of fans who aren't as old as you as kids just because, it's pretty damn unbecoming. It's an attitude that breeds more contempt and hostility.

I think the Geewunner thing is pretty lame, because trying to insult people abused on preferences in toys and shows is just weak. It's not worth dwelling over if someone hates something you like and likes what you don't.

 

I grew up with both, can't we just like them both equally? I don't get all the hate. Beast wars referenced G1 continuity all the time and it was awesome. Starscream controlling waspinator was the best episode ever (even without the late great Chris Latta).

I dont think im a Geewunner even though i watched it as a kid. to be honest i colected the Beast wars toys and had about 20 even though i never saw the show. its only recently i have started to watch it on Youtube its pretty cool. but as a teenager the whole animal thing gave me the heeebeegeebees. i never hate on any TFshow im a TF fan before a Show fan.

 

That's like saying Batman Beyond is Justice League Unlimited.

Well, I really just like robots. G1s are great to me because those are "my" transformers. I remember getting my first transformer. Megatron when i was 6. So I have a bit of a bias.

I liked beast Wars, and RID, hated Armada, and everything up until Animated.

 

I did not mean geewunner as people that watched g1 as a kid I mean people that are like "It sucks because it is not g1" I love g1, people on this thread act like a and a beast wars only fan which I am not

Best post in this entire thread lol.G1 was the first and everything after has been based off it and will continue to do so if the franchise will succeed.Watching G1 now can be dated but so is BW and so will any current series in 20 yrs.Really........ fighting over what is better are we five?
