Yeah, 3Ps should definitely release some add-ons for this figure. Stock, the proportions are a little goofy and I'd prefer the IDW design more (forward facing cockpit, quad-pincers over simply dual, etc.). The number of weapons included is great!

This one will be a rare non Masterpiece purchase for me as it'll go very nicely with my other Wreckers.

I'm pleased with the aesthetic as I can't stand the current IDW art for the character.

Whirl looks down right awesome! Glad I passed on trying to get the FoC Ruination one...and the rest of that wave for that matter. As good as Whirl looks, now I hope they come back later and give us a Classics Roadbuster.

IDW are like buses wait long enough and it will arrive .. or in other words they might well use the toy design in a comic soon enough. no doubt the week after a bunch of people have kit bashed him the current comic body will be rendered null and void.

 

So what happens there then? Do all the comics with his design that a lot of people seem to like spontaniously combust? Does some sort of brain ray get sent out that makes us all stop liking it?

 

No you see because he has a massive hate-boner for everything IDW related that means that you're now allowed to like anything from them and if you dare to like something from them you're crazy and your opinions are invalid and you must never ever ever wish for something IDW inspired. EVER!

 

So many obscure G1 transformers are getting new toys... What's next, the entire micromaster series getting new molds?

 

To be honest, I would love to see a number of them redone.

about the GERWALK mode, who designed the original G1 Dorvack Whirl again?, is it Shoji Kawamori?

 

I think he means that the comic characters seem to change their bodies a lot so by the time a toy is released based on the comic character, that character now has upgraded himself and no longer looks like what the toy is based on.

 

Whirl and Roadbuster were originally toys from a line called Dorvack, that was made by Takutoku. The same company that Jetfire was obtained from.


Neither of the Dorvack toys made the cartoon because of issues with licensing in Japan, and it's much the same reason Jefire became Skyfire.


IIRC, The DX Insecticons came from Takutoku too, and one of them (Ransack?) was actually never released in the Beetras line at all, before either the line was cancelled, or Takutoku went belly up



Preadking.... IIRC, the story was that an external design house was reponsible for them, BanDai then attempted to sue Takara, claiming they had exclusive rights to produce any gestalt with a lion head on the chest. Some or all of that may not be true.

Well some of the legends toys do come with micromaster partners...

I personaly didn't got anything I wanted out of a modern Whirl but it's still Whirl and I'm still buying him in hope that a 3rd party will give us some add-ons to give him the look I want to have on my classic shelf.

 

If you're reading the comics, none of these are obscure.
