WHAT!?!? Okay that is not how it is supposed to be. It isn't a perk, that's the 10% discount we get. When I worked at TRU we were told that yes we could buy things from the store, but we were told that we'd have to wait until the end of the day when the store closes to do so. Customers came first and as such got dibs first on exclusives or whatever. It doesn't make any sense for them to tell employees "hey go right ahead and get first dibs". That means that any employee could just yank an item while their stocking. The closest thing were told to this, was that we were allowed to put things in the back room we intended to buy where the manager worked. No questions asked we just had to tell whatever manager was working at the time we wanted to hold that item.

While yes, employees are customers except when you wear that uniform. When you wear that uniform you are an employee not a customer.

Things could have changed since I worked there or it might just be a manager who's abusing the system. I don't know. All I can say is that's an idiotic way of running things, because it means that in theory employees could buy entire cases of figures when restocking them. Then customers come in and there's nothing to buy because the employees bought all the good items. TRU wants you to come in and browse. They want you to look at the other merchandise they sell because it means you might buy something else on top of what your already looking for. That's just common knowledge.

I did the whole wait all night thing up till 3:30 am EST then went to bed. Then nature called at 6 am so I answered. I figured what the hell and refreshed the page on the way to bed again and saw SW sitting there all happy. Enter the panic, gotta git it, where the hell did I leave everything half asleep fit. After multiple tries putting it in the cart and having it yanked it finally stayed in. I thought about using the coupon code but I didn't want to take the change with cutnpaste and Paypal'ed it.

It should be sitting in my living room Tuesday afternoon with a big grin on my face. I told myself after the Optimus Prime screw over that I was going to order the next one online come hell or high water. I still don't have that one and the prices online are stupid high. I'm sure they will eventually release another Prime at some point like Grimlock.

First time poster long time fan of the site, have not been interested in joining until I ran into this thread...and let me tell you, it is because of other passionate people/collectors like you out there that I am proud to love a toyline such as this one, I was up all night with you all the evening of 7/17 and all though I was just a bystander I felt the passion and dedication that gave me the will to stay up reading some great comments until about 2:45ish when I couldn't keep my eyes open, reading all the comments that were going back and forth made me feel like a kid again and like I belonged to something great, which is why I decided to join, because of this thread and how it helped me obtain one of my favorite toys as a child...Transformers were a beacon of light when we were living out of our car back then and my mom was lucky enough to get me and my brother each a transformer toy to put a smile on our faces...that toy was Soundwave...it is a great time in our lives to be a TF fan!!! it is a pleasure to finally be able to converse with you all!

 

SW will be at my doorstep in less than 12 hours. Woohoo

I find it hard to believe that it going to take until Tuesday to get soundwave in the mail.
Right now it is in Columbus Ohio. I'm in Pittsburgh Pa. I have cousins who are in Dayton Ohio and it usually takes me 4 hours to get there and I hit Columbus on the way there. Columbus is about 2 and a half to 3 hours away. I should have it on Monday.

 

Amazing story,man. Welcome! Soundwave has the same effect on me. We moved all over the place when I was a kid, so my only consistent friends were my toys. I took back tons of pop bottles and saved every penny I got my hands on. When my mom took me to a Service Merchandise, the one thing I wanted to blow all that hard earned cash on was Soundwave. That's why, now that I've built a stable life for me and my little family, I really feel the need to have this toy. Strange,I know, but the feeling is undeniable.

 

It all changed in 2007 when the movies started and brought even more attention to transformers. It brought band wagon fans around that were only in it for the money.

Ah ha! So those are yours on eBay. I always look at them to see what MP-11 would look like in purple and black. They look great! Nice work.

 

I moved all over the place but I was different. We were poor as hell and it was always someone else who had the more expensive Transformers. I remember the first time I saw Optimus, and the first time I saw Soundwave.

My mom bought me one here and there, Hound and Swoop and Sideswipe and Perceptor (lol, Perceptor), but kids break and lose stuff, and I never had anything approaching a "collection". So being able to buy MP-10 and MP-13 is sort of like being able to right a wrong, to get back that part of my childhood for myself.

Anyway, my Soundwave just shipped today, so I'm stoked =p

And yes, I'm painting his visor.

 

Great story and welcome to the boards   TFs were and still are my all time favorite toys. My first figures were Laserbeak and Frenzy aka Rumble. Got them from Sears when TFs first started popping up and were not popular yet.. I also remember that day was the first time I was allowed to stay home alone while my parents went out lol. I spent the entire time flying laserbeak around and fighting rumble lol ..
