Saw it today at a packed theater. Not sure why the box office is so low but the movie definitely delivers as far as the visuals and the fighting sequence are concerned. The character development could use more work, but I'd rather have the majority of the screentime devoted to Robot vs Monsters. Besides I found myself misty-eyed on more than one occassion so there's definitely some heart-warming moments. I can see myself getting the DVD or Blu-Ray when it's on discount. 8/10 my score.
But that would've nerfed the entire point of the finale: that they were going in critically underarmed and it was a slim, if any, hope. Having only four Jaegers was bad enough, but getting whittled down to two showd just how dour things had gotten.
Just got back from watching this. Had a big stupid grin on my face start to finish. I don't think it would be possible for me to enjoy a movie any more than this one. It's like Del Toro wrote a love letter specifically to me in the form of film.
Thought of a weapon they should have built into the Jeagers. Some sort of rod stabbing weapon that could shoot out and stab into the Kaiju. Then have the point open up within the kaiju and fire out a bomb. So now there is a bomb inside the monster.
I really hope if we get a sequel we get mega-zord like Jeagars.. cause well.. screw it I want to see live action God Mars... and I want something to put the crappy Devastator in TF2 to shame..
So I just saw this movie and all I can say is that I'm Blown away at just how amazing this movie was in fact I'm going to watch it again in IMAX right now !!!!
Saw it again in UltraAVX 3D and wow, what a world of difference it makes to view it on a smaller screen than Imax. I could hardly tell what was going on on the Imax screen, but in the UltraAVX theater, everything was very clear, and the 3D was great. I also like the movie even better than the first time around.
Well the good news is that Pacific Rim is doing better than Grown Ups 2 worldwide. But it still needs to make at least 100 million to pay for it's production budget. Grown Ups 2 only needs to make 36 million more. That's why you keep getting shitty sequels to shittier movies, they cost nothing to make so any money they make past budget is great. (Pacific Rim (2013) - Box Office Mojo) Domestic: $38,300,000 41.9% + Foreign: $53,000,000 58.1% = Worldwide: $91,300,000 vs. (Grown Ups 2 (2013) - Box Office Mojo) Domestic: $42,500,000 96.2% + Foreign: $1,700,000 3.8% = Worldwide: $44,200,000 The main problem I see this summer is that there's a big movie opening practically every Friday fighting for our dollars, and some films have been poorly advertised or not screened in as many theaters. Basically it's a summer movie traffic jam and everyone's gonna get hurt by it more than they should have. A wiser decision would have been to spread these films out further over the year.
I guess I haven't been paying attention, the last "Big" movie came out exactly a month before Pacifc Rim; Man of Steel. Before that was Star Trek which came out almost a month before MOS.. Wolverine however is following only 2 weeks after Pacific Rim. I read a review earlier which basically said that the huge showing for Grown Up's 2 was just proof that it wouldn't be long before Ass: The Movie gets made.. 4D smellovision of course..
The Jaeger Striker looks so similar to Evagelion mech that it would be so cool if Del Toro ever makes a movie based on that anime.
So how would you guys rank the 4 Jaegers after watching the movie For me it's: 1.Gipsy Danger 2. Cherno Alpha (apparently everyone loves the big guy) 3. Striker Eureka 4. Crimson Typhoon
1. Striker Eureka 2. Gypsy Danger 3. Cherno Alpha 4. Crimson Typhoon But you know what? They are all really cool in their own way and I want to own the toy for them all, along with all the Kanji of course.
