^ I wasn't aware the franchise needed saving, judging by DOTM's ticket sales worldwide. Worldwide appeal is what Bay/Hasbro is going for. Trying to appeal to more than 20% of the world's population seems like a good move, money-wise.
Who? Okay, Wikipedia says he's a singer and actor, like Li Bingbing. Look, Bay, go to India, cast someone like Shah Rukh Khan or Rajnikanth, you'll get more reliable box office takings and definitely higher ones.
I really don't like the way Bay panders to china. Don't get me wrong, I didn't like the über pandering to the US in the first 2 either.
Wait...who said he's one of the top stars in Asia? I'm Chinese and I can tell you that he is not, not even close. This is pretty old trick now and im not sure how much this will help in sales in the Chinese market. But as a fan, who cares. Just give me good robots and decent story line.
Your location says "Canada." I think Bay/Hasbro is going for the movie-going crowds in China/Hong Kong/Asia. And yes, there is a difference (I'm Chinese-American, by the way, and never heard of Han Seng either but I do recognize when a company is trying to widen its worldwide marketability, something I do not blame Bay/Hasbro for from a commercial standpoint.... artistic/critical standpoint is something else entirely).
