QFT. The mighty Phazer with his infernal logic has once again cut through the hype. (I'm not being snarky here - I'm totally serious.) Just because tons of people watched the trailer doesn't translate into huge ticket sales/DVD sales or great critical reviews. It could translate into whole bunches of people watching out of curiousity and going "meh," and then e-mailing/IMing friends so that they too can go "meh." Or it could pull a Snakes on a Plane where the whole Internet is buzzing but nobody goes to see it anyway.

BTW, for the record, I'm still on the fence on this movie, BTW. I'm not in the "Movie Bad" group. I'm just advising caution.

Word of mouth doesn't spread because something is "meh"... if something is "meh," people forget it the second they finish and go on surfing. If something is trully horrible on a whole different level... that still doesn't translate to traffic or else Uwe Boll would be setting internet records every trailer he debutes.

How this TF trailer broke records when the amout of casual and hardcore fans doesn't come near that of Spider-man is a darn interesting question. Perhaps it's just further proof that things can spread pretty darn fast on the net and how much more net savy people are.

And how the heck can a leak about a 'fan edit' with Cullen's voice over be anything but a marketing ploy? A pretty ingenous one at that.

EDIT: And checking the non-TF sights... reactions are overall good.

Glad it broke the record. After all, Transformers are one of the coolest things ever. If not why would we all be here? It will own 7-4-7.

This trailer hasn't spread to break records in 24 hours by word of mouth, at least any more than any trailer does irrespective of quality.

Well, there's one easy answer - there are more casual TF fans than people give credit for, and they're skewed slightly younger and more tech-orientated.

Compared to all of last month?

I've been shocked personally about how many people around me were telling *me* about the trailer. People I didn't know had any interest in Transformers. There might be more interest in this movie than previously thought...

    Unwarranted personal analysis aside..

The point is, the trailer was downloaded because people wanted to see it. Just like on 7/4/7, people will go to see it despite how many TF fans whine and complain about how they didn't get it their way. Most of the average movie going public are going to see this movie whether we say it rocks or not. Why? Because it's a cool darn trailer, Michael Bay's attached as well as Stephen Spielberg, and it's gonna be a summer blockbuster. These ingredients equal movie goer curiosity which equals a family amount of tickets purchased on opening day. It will own out of curiosity if not on quality alone.

Personally, I'm actually looking forward to the post movie rants from the naysayers. Should be interesting.

    Peace!!!

    From Don Murphy's website:

"I am told the revised trailer will be up on the Official Site in two hours.

I am not sure what Nelson is talking about on his site, but the change was made by Paramount at my suggestion after hearing you all. They are as "official" as anyone can get.

Let me know what you think."

You're like the mean kid who takes a needle and pops a smaller kid's balloon :sly:  :D

For starters, it was on yahoo's movie page, which gets a lot of foot traffic. Secondly, I think a lot of fans passed the link on to a handful of non-fans, or lapsed fans, to see what they thought.

The only people whom I have witnessed to having negative reactions from yesterday's teaser trailer, fans or otherwise, are those whose minds were previously set in stone that Michael Bay did Transformers "wrong". Given that, and the general consensus amongst the fanbase, I would say the teaser trailer was passed on and viewed a lot because people actually LIKED it. And not necessarily because it has "Transformers" attached to it, but because it genuinely looks like an amazing sci-fi action movie. Is that a possibility?

basically you say something that "baits" someone else into posting a heated reaction. you say something that you KNOW will get a rise outta someone. Its rule #1 around here, no baiting/flaming (personal attacks).
