My theater was pretty empty as well at the 7 PM IMAX showing. Has me worried. There was a small line outside for the film though.

so two of my friends (brothers) were at the premiere, same time as me last night, and we didn't even know it till the movie came up today, lol. i thought i saw someone that looked like the older one in the audience but i wrote it off as it being dark :lol

also i loved the bit where they explain that the aliens 'beta tested' the kaiju by making
    dinosaurs
. it also helps explain why the kaiju's infrastructure seems to be more earth-y.

my theater was really full. our imax is about 1 1/2 times the size of our standard theaters and it was still about 65% full.

I thought they used the Kaiju
before to exterminate the dinosaurs, but couldn't settle on the planet because the atmosphere was too different. It wasn't until humans caused climate change that the planet became unintentionally terraformed enough for the aliens to try again since now they could live on the planet.

It was really good. I have to compare it to watching Avatar. The spectacle was great, while the story/dialogue was shit. But I wasn't expecting a reinvention of the wheel in that department, so it isn't a complaint. I give it a solid 7/10, highly recommended.

Saw it last night and was thankfully early enough that I wasn't waaaaay out the door by the time the line was ready to go in :)  It was exactly what I hoped we'd see, though I will say htat reading the graphic novel prequel first made the story much better.

    Where's my god damn shoe?"

Did you all in the US get the Japanese dialogue? It was completely dubbed over into English in Singapore :(

I loved this movie. Predispositions about robots and monsters aside, it was just well-made. It was a film, not just a movie. The characters were good, the story was tight, the pacing was great. It was just well-crafted. No scene felt pointless or drawn-out or cringe-worthy.

So PR nerds. Those of you with the NECA figures would you say the Gypsy Danger is worth it? I vowed not to buy a GD figure after
she was blown up like nothing
but she's just to cool to pass up. I heard the NECA GD is basically a brick though. This true? Or should I wait for some other 3rd party to take a crack at it (crossing my fingers for Revoltech or Play Arts).

    No :I

Alrighty then, folks, I have seen the film. I've just come back from seeing it with my eyes, and I've just come back from hearing it with my ears.

    Folks.

    Folks.

I'm not sure what to say.

I'll let this chap speak for me:

    Voila.

    9.9/10, subtracted a 0.1 because I wanted more screentime for Russia/China pilots.

    This film.

I love it. I love it so much. Thank you, Del Toro. Thank you so much.

I'm so giddy. I'm so happy. I love it all so much. The wait has been worth it. The pay-off was beautiful. It was wonderful.

    So yes, Slattern tells me.
This is indeed the part where we bone.

The 6 inch Gypsy Danger *is* pretty much a brick. Crimson Typhoon has better articulation (on his right side anyway)

I feel like the kaiju should have been done much larger...Knifehead just doesn't look like any kind of threat when posed with either of the Jeagers.

But I'm still buying everything from the line :p

I want to see this film 578 thousand times. I knew I'd enjoy it, but I was floored by how stunningly wonderful it is.

maybe i misunderstood, lol. all i remember from the dialogue is
"the aliens used it before using the dinosaurs" so i assumed the dinosaurs were prototype kaiju.
i guess your explanation makes more sense though.

    Regarding
dinosaurs, I think the point Newt was making is the the last time aliens visited Earth, it was during the time of the dinosaurs, rather than dinosaurs being prototype-Kaiju/being killed by Kaiju, and the aliens figured: Meh, not good enough. Full of lizard things. Try again later.

I understood it the way you did too, but I'm hoping I misheard or something because interpreting that plot point in that way was pretty much the only nitpick I have been able to think of that I didn't care for, but netkid's I like much better.

I interpreted it as dinosaurs being early kaiju also and they were sent as scouts to make planet fit for inhabitation but the atmosphere was all wrong so they aborted the attempt and tried again after us humans messed the atmosphere up enough

Just got back. It was everything I wanted it to be. So glad it didn't have a dumb romantic sub-plot.

I gotta say the guy who played Raleigh was not a great actor. That's pretty much my only negative.

I didn't stay for the post credit scene. Didn't know there was one. After reading about it, I approve. :D

Man...This weekend is my nephew's birthday weekend, so I have to wait until next week at least.

I swear the wait is going to kill me if I keep reading so many positive reactions!
