I think they were trying to go for a "war has consequences!" type thing, and I appreciate this because a) this is a franchise that has always centered around war and b) long-term injuries are something that veterans of real war have to deal with.

That said, it is hard to swallow in a show where one of the other guys regularly switches his hands around for buzzsaws and half the other characters have hands that blow apart into death rays.

Also he was pretty much okay with it and ready to fight after a single episode, so . . . the message got lost anyway.

Ha ha ha, this would be the BEST. I can just see Knock Out setting up a shady little side-business for himself, fixing up Autobots in exchange for really high-grade car wax.

 

I am indifferent to it. I know Ratchet will make something better once he has the chance.

Seems like a fun way to pass the time... we all know Knock Out might have a few spares lying around in storage (seriously, whose arm WAS that in 'Shadowzone'?), so surely one of them can afford to give him a hand, right?

Eh. I just don't get why they can't give him his hand or a reasonable facsimilie back. They're robots. IRL we can build hands that have similar human fidelity right now. Can't they just scale one up for Mags? Or just cannibalize a vehicon?

 

So I guess Breakdown eye patch doesn't count.

In all seriousness, though, good points. I guess my thing is with Bulkhead's injury was that Ratchet, the doctor that we're suppose to believe is the superior one in the show, said that he may never walk or be the same again. Yet, as you pointed out, after some physical therapy, he was just fine.

Makes me question Ratchet as the superior medic, when Knock Out has done a lot more medic-y things with relative success (Breakdown's eyepatch was never explained if Knock Out couldn't repair it, or if Breakdown chose to wear the patch as a reminder of his failure... would have been nice if the writers stressed this).

 

Well Ratchet said he could have done better with Bumblebee voice box and kicked himself for not bordering to learn human medicine, when Raf got poison by Dark Energon.

I think Megatron made Breakdown get the eye patch for being captured by humans.

I am happy with it. At least it's proof that this war has consequence and there can be lasting damage.

Sure they could have designed a better replacement, but I'm still glad they took the time and effort to make credible changes to the character.

 

I was surprised they didn't give the leader of the wreckers a harpoons hand.

 

Nah, I like it. I doubt it'll stick around forever, but people do lose limbs in wars and it gives Magnus something unique

 

I thought they would get the head of the Forge and give Magnus a permanent hammer arm.

 

It's ok, it's a like it or hate it type of thing.

 

I would have liked it better if they gave him a harpoon hand to homage Impactor, but I don't think it's bad. I'll have to see how he uses it in future episodes, it might annoy me a bit then if he's waving it all over and its movement is too awkward.
