This is the End - 9/10
Not to oversell it, but by far the funniest (and best) fuckin' movie of the year right here! Laughed my damn ass off during every single sequence.

    White House Down - 5/10
Go rent...I mean, buy Die Hard instead. Save your money on yet another Channing Tatum dud.

Agree on all points (maybe except the "comedy" part since I was bored more than anything). Will go into more detail in the actual WHD thread.

    Man of Steel 7/10

Perfectly serviceable I might watch it once more but not after that as it's not really worth watching more than twice for me.

    The Avengers: 6/10.

    Pros:
    +Nice explosions.
    +Some funny parts.

    Cons:
-There wasn't a lot of development. One minute they were arguing the next minute they were on a team. What the heck?
-It seemed waaaaaaay too much like DOTM. Seriously there were so many similarities it wasn't even funny. I loved DOTM, but with this?
-One of the Avengers was a bad guy for three-fourths of the movie.
-It felt like it should have been longer.

So... why was it considered better than DOTM? Seriously I didn't think it was that great.

Because it had five earlier movies to set the characters and plot points needed for this movie instead of jamming 'em all in one.

I sorta felt the same thing when I first watched the movie. I went there without watching any of the individual movies and so I didn't have any attachment to any of the characters and I did also feel it was a lot like DOTM.

Seven Pounds - 5/10. Not Will Smith's best or worst movie, but a lot of the drama felt forced and the soundtrack was intentionally played on a broken piano.

Iron Man: Rise of Technovore - 6/10. A really promising Iron Man anime is let down by a convoluted storyline.

    From Up on Poppy Hill
    7/10

Not the worst, but not the best either. And with this movie, I'm done with the theatrical Ghibli films. However, there's still a TV movie called "Ocean Waves" that went off my radar and I must see to wrap up my Ghiblithon.

They do. But they're not great, at least IMO.

    Huh.

I'm not much for animes, unless they have Transformers.

    Skyfall

    9/10

A truly great Bond film, definitely in the upper echelon. I thoroughly enjoyed that they brought the franchise up into the real world. Craig really plays a good Bond.

World War Z (In my defense I was invited to Man of Steel, but stuff happened)

    As an action movie 4/10

Honestly it's pretty bad, it's not "laughable" bad, or "terrible" bad, it's simply forgettable. By far the most memorable scene was pepsi's product placement (world has gone to hell?, locked with a bunch of zombies? then pepsi is the drink you need!)

It has interesting ideas, but they aren't greatly executed, and the movie moves at an odd pace.

It can basically be summed up as: Brad Pitt survives quite comfortably in a world that happens to have some zombies.

    Also no SeƱor Lobo

But as a movie to poke fun at with your friends it can be hilarious, so if you are interested in some laughs, watch it on netflix once it's released and grab as many noise friends as possible.

    Mississippi Burning

This movie is cruel! Scariest part? When one of the black men describing what happened to one of his fellows when he got his **** chopped off with a razor!

    8/10

    ---

    Ocean Waves

At first I thought it'll be another normal drama Ghibli movie. But this time the characters are more memorable! Rikaku was a selfish, manipulative, deceiving which is a nice refreshing concept for the studio.

    8/10

With this, now I'm done with my Ghiblithon. To recap:

Movies I really enjoyed and among my favorites (9/10):
    • NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind
    • Laputa: Castle in the Sky
    • Grave of the Fireflies
    • My Neighbor Totoro
    • Porco Rosso
    • Princess Mononoke
    • My Neighbors the Yamadas
    • Spirited Away
    • Tales from Earthsea
    • Ponyo on a Cliff

Movies I thought were also enjoyable, but with some issues (8/10):
    • Kiki's Delivery Service
    • Ocean Waves
    • Pom Poko
    • Whisper of the Heart
    • The Cat Returns
    • Howl's Moving Castle
    • The Borrower Arrietty

    Least favorite movies (7/10):
    • Only Yesterday
    • From Up on Poppy Hill

Thrilling end to a tragically short series. Cant' stop the signal.
