EZ Pass. Head too big. Hands too big, though the articulated fingers are a great idea. Biggest ugly point is the neck. Head needs to cover that up. I could see getting a Bandai and trying it out, but I don't know if the $100+ for the Bandai + $40 for this set is worth it at all. Might make it more cartoon accurate, but it's pretty ugly and not worth modding a G1 Jetfire or Valkyrie.
you should put it on a vf1J the coloring of Rick Hunter's first veritech is a better color match for Skyfire
Yeah... This set will never touch my VF-1. It's... OK? But it doesn't match the aesthetic of the original, which was perfect.
For a first go it's not bad. I'm no that interested because I don't have a Jetfire but at least they are trying to do something with the toy. It's nice to see a 3rd Party at least try and update an old G1 toy. http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/thumb/0/0f/G1Jetfire_MarvelTFU.jpg/300px-G1Jetfire_MarvelTFU.jpg Looking at that old picture it's not too oversized and matches up with that general box shape and the idea that scale is almost always wrong appeal of G1.
Honestly. here's my 2cents: If you're going to go the upgrade route for a 30-year old G1 toy like Jetfire. appease to the overall design itself. remember this one thing: this toy came from the Macross Universe. The Cartoon Jetfire shares absolutely no similarities with this toy at all. So with that being said, why not just give him a more updated classic feel taking advantage of all the glorious features it already has and just expand upon it. Update the head so that the Helmet part is removable (aka G1 Dreamwave Jetfire) Give him a new booster backpack by simply combining the 2 G1 back Boosters into one big booster also maybe add a comple wing stabilizers to it. Make his G1 Gun so it can split into various pieces that can be placed on the wings in such a way that they look like missle and gun pods. As for his head that's the more easy part. Keep the G1/Valkyrie head and make it more like a removable Helmet or turn it into more of a head so the front part has a transparent Red Visor and can flip up and reveal his Face underneath. I strongly recommend against using his cartoon face. I'd honestly go for a more comic book face approach (again using the Dreamwave G1 Jetfire as reference) Give him more updated leg and arm armor as well adding some Bulk to the overall toy, and maybe even a brand new clip-on chest piece. (again matching the more Dreamwave Jetfire aesthetic) but again, you need to keep the original Macross design in mind when doing this. you want to alter the design but make it appear as if was originally intended to look like a sentient robot. but, you don't want to redically effect the overall transformation. 1 more thing. Having fully articulated fingers on an old toy isn't needed. I'd say go for a more updates fist that can use universal 5mm pegged weapons. the more versatile you make your product, the more cross playability with other toys you can have. IF you decide to follow my suggestions, you will get rid of MOST of the more negative critques and feedback. Trust me if you go back to the drawing board and attempt my suggestions, this will be such a far more impressive upgrade kit. not only that but you will help in creating an entirely new toy all the while increasing the value of the Original G1 Jetfire. Study the colors, quality, and designs of the original armor add-on's carefully, so you can figure out a more proper way of updating it. I's also suggest working with Reprolabels for some stickers for the set as well, and use the original Jetfire's stickers as a basis for their design. Keep them transparent like the original. When all is said and done. I estimate this new kit being about 70-80 dollars (yes, I'm serious)
I think you mean the vf-1s Hikaru , slap some tv vf-1j miria red fastpack armor and you re pretty much updated jetfire . the yamato 1/48 or 1/60 v2 is probably the best bet.
Agreed. Our board requires members to be civil and respectful to each other. Honestly speaking, if we don't a MP Skyfire soon, I'd be interested in this kit just to start my own project. I've had a junker on standby for some time now.
These dudes are pretty friendly and open to new ideas and suggestions. So far, I've learned (through IM'ing on FB) they have plans to retool the hands to feature 5mm peg holes instead of articulated fingers. and they are retooling the gun to feature a 5mm peg (handle) to fit into the hands. as for the idea I had for the head i'm still awaiting a reply. my suggestion was for them to retool the original G1 Jetfire head (that the toy came with originally) and have it feature a Translucent Red Visor and Red Light-Piping.
. . . . and no one said it wasn't I'd much prefer the articulated hands myself. I also wonder which the intended consumer base has the aim for: A.) a G1 toy that looks more faithful to Skyfire or B.) a Classics toy that is just bigger than Classics Jetfire. I honestly think that a whole new toy made in the G1 aesthetic would be much easier than trying to make a kit for a toy that looks little like the toy it's attaching to. I'd think the same for a more "Classics" figure as well. If A, then I just have to say that G1 Jetfire is a great toy that doesn't need any "enhancements", and part of the allure of it to me is the whole IP story and such. If B, I'm not going to say that Classics Jetfire is a bad toy, but it does need an update - and it's one that we probably won't be seeing for a while officially. I really like the overall look of Classics Jetfire, but a MUCH cooler toy could be made now. "Reproducing" as in for a Skyfire or "reproducing" as in for the look of Skyfire?
hand will still be articulate it but it will have a 5mm hole , that way they wont look as big , the handle of the gun will also be change to he held by the new hands
While we're looking at ideas, how about a blue cockpit replacement? Or maybe making a clear blue variation of the cockpit shield that the Macross figure had This is a picture of a repainted 1990 Valkyrie I did. The side by side view shows it with and without the cockpit shield. And here's a better shot of the cockpit shield itself
Yeah, that's what the 1990 reissue looked like. This is the thread to that project http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/531596-1990-1-55-bandai-vf-1s-super-valkyrie-jetfire.html
