Oh yeah, you're right. It's just...really weird for me to see a bumbling character like Waspinator be the one to deliver the final blow (which doesn't seem to be much more than a sting). I guess there's a reason for Waspinator to be a Titan Hunter, and he's probably capable. This caught me off-guard just as much as the Animated Waspinator, who was also scary and powerful, unlike the comic relief in Beast Wars :lol

No explanation, but like Mr Aho says, most of the Hunters are Insecticons. They made Waspinator a 'G1' Insection as well, if you look at him his parts are not organic but mechanic. :)

Huh that's a rather interesting take on the art. I can dig it.

Also Waspinator didn't take him out all alone. As we saw in the new MTMTE there are whole squads of Titan hunters made mostly out of Insecticons. Waspinator was probably just the unlucky bastard that got to deal the final shot.

Gotta say this is probably the first Orion Pax issue that I'm looking forward to.

    Awesome!

Am I the only one hoping its Waspinator on the "Comic Pack-in" cover?

I'd totally be down for that!

So the worst thing that could ever happen to Waspinator is that he could finally succeed? Fantastic.

well said, and yea hats off Barber, what a nice touch for waspinator.

Im sort of wondering if the other people in the bar are going to believe anything he says- the whole scene so far comes off like some drunk guy inna bar telling some tall tale "That aint nuthin George - did i ever tell you about the time i took out a Metrotitan?"

i think that waspinator had some kind of weapon in hand designed to mess with the metrotitans- im pretty sure it says the metrotitan 'panicked'.

Also- MTMTE and RID lacing together more and more -
Rodimus finds a metrotitan graveyard the month before waspinator regals us with 'the time he killed a metrotitan' story

Haha. I get it. It's like when you get stung by a wasp and they get their stinger stuck in you so they can't let go, and you panic trying to get it off. And then you die... and the wasp gets to drive you around like a giant drone.... apparently. :p

The art... kind of looks like impressive-but-awkward fan art. It's not bad, but it also feels a bit crude. The real test for new artists like this is if the art looks as good in the last half of the book as it does in the first half (it rarely does). :)

Writing... so far, this is feeling much like the Barber I've been seeing in recent issues. Things happen "just because". Megatron can control the very nature of Cybertron... just because. He can psychically drive individuals and small groups of Cybertronians into murderous rages... just because. Aerialbots can spontaneously combine... just because.

And now, Waspinator takes down a Metrotitan... just because. Waspinator now has CONTROL over the Metrotitan... just because. Don't question it! It's a cosmic accident! You can't possibly understand! Mere logic cannot impede the almighty plot!!

God I hate lazy comic-book plot-hammers and shortcuts. Cosmic accidents, "just like I planned it" and "suddenly, there's an explosion!" and all that stuff. Blah.

Way to judge off a 3 page preview smog.

I wonder if he's talking to Thundercracker.

I'd love a new toy but he does still look an awful lot like 10th Anniversary Waspinator. Right down to those stupid little plastic notches on his shoulders.

Hmmm. It is an interesting look at Waspinator, giving him a new origin that still does him justice (self-pitiful, getting into stuff he can't handle, getting blown apart but not dying). Looking forward to seeing what more there is to his story...

    And waiting for Rattrap...

Dude, I'm judging by the explicit text, the indications provided by the preview, and the recent history of this author... who has been leaning rather heavily on "just because" logic and generic cliches lately. That's what's called an educated prognosis.

If this issue suddenly turns out to be the best thing Barber has ever written, I'll be right here to congratulate him. But I've been following his series for a year and a half now, so insisting on a "wait and see" approach is kind of ridiculous at this stage. I just don't seen the point in suspending my critical faculties "just because".
