In the new Wizard (#183)p. 94 it seems Ol'Pattie is working on the new Metal Men book for DC. WTF?! It's sad enough that the Metal Men don't have that big of a following but how many that would have gave this book a shot (like myself) won't touch it because PAT F'EN LEE has anything to do with it (sadly also like myself)

Yea, it's moronic ... I was very hesitant to read Batman: Journey into the Knight because the bum did the covers for them. I think that the metal men will have to be an in-store read, if anything

I'm just curious, did Pat Lee ever apologize or accept any kind of blame for what went down?

I don't believe he ever did.

I bet he makes the Metal Men look like Transformers. Can you think of any other reason they'd get him to do a robot book?

I read it somewhere saying about legalities and stuff. I really feel for the writers, artists and whoever is owed money by DW's demise.

*Oops...I read to fast and posted to fast - I assumed the question was saying - "did Lee mentioned anything why his ex-staff weren't getting paid". My apologies.

The thing that amazes me isn't that Pat still gets work after how he shafted so many artists, what amazes me is that Pat still gets work in spite of being a really shitty artist.

You know, I've never really looked at his stuff. I know he's coming from Liefeld's studio, which is an ominous portent to begin with, but are there any samples you can point me to for illustration? Kind of like the Captits America pic sums up Liefeld.

There's a dissection picture somewhere on the web of one of his first TF comic coverse, showing that several limbs are not only wildly out of proportion but also entirely disconnected from the rest of the body.

At least it doesn't appear that he's redesigned them. That would have been horrific.

Ignoring the whole Dreamwave collapse and owing lots of people money thing, I do wonder why Pat Lee is as successful as he is.

I mean, until Transformers, I never bought any of his books, I'd pick up at the shelf (attracted by the manga esque covers) then put it straight back when I saw the interiors. When I saw Transformers I wasn't overly impressed, as his human characters looked poop, (IMO its easier to draw robots than people) and he seemed to over rely on the colourist to save his line art.

Its like Rob Liefield, I don't understand it. Every thing he draws is a hairy perpetually gritted teeth steroid abuser standing in a void. Whats the attraction?

My explanation is people are getting confused between Pat Lee and Jim Lee. In the same way that Jim Lee doubtless get confused with Bruce Lee.

Urrrrrgh. This thread has made me remember the X-men/Fantastic Four miniseries. Oh the Horror.

The plain and simple reason is because the big companies know that Pat is a name grabber, by which I mean even when he's working on something totally unrelated to what set him up as the monster many fans think he is, we Transfans always publicize when he get's new work or something like that and to them even bad press is good.

Because of everything that went down the big companies are always going to find some little trivial project to send his way because we Transfans report on his every job; we ultimately are to blame for his continued success, because it sure as hell isn't his artwork that's getting him these gigs. If we stopped reporting any and all art jobs that are given to him to the masses of Transfans; some of whom probably actually buy his books just to spite, he'd fall back into obscurity and recieve no further acclaim. (Of course that's just my opinion I could be totally wrong.)

What; you haven't read how some fans want to buy the books he works on just to burn them? I know some people jokingly say that; also there are people out there that probably actually like his art and buy his books because of it.

See where he's going with this? Those guys buying his books just to burn them are idiots... as long as he gets paid for them, do you really think he cares what they do with them afterwards?
