Is this funny? Cuz I basically just swiped something that really happened a few years back. Let's hope it's funny PS: Added a new standee set to lilformers.com featuring Optimus Prime, Alpha Trion, Wheelie and Ratchet. Just click the banner in my sig to go check em out.
That's hilarious. Great work, dude! PS: I have to admit - I look forward to the Li'l Formers strips now. They are really well done and awfully entertaining!
Yes. The Red Cross suddenly tried to enforce the “white box with the red plus” as their service mark, and seek monetary damages from any entity that had used it without their consent. This is funny to me because the Red Cross has allowed the use of their icon for years. Most people thought it was a public domain image. Then I guess they got a new lawyer one day who was like “Hey, we don’t get paid for that?” Think about it. How many video games have used a white box with a red plus to symbolize a health power up? I think that there have been hundreds since back in the 82. Now the Red Cross thinks they should get paid for things like that.
The lawyer for the Red Cross sort of looks like Michael Jackson's attorney from last year's trial in Santa Monica (I only know this because my wife made me watch the reconstructions on CourtTV). I wonder if this was on purpose? If Ratchet had gotten Thomas Mesereau as his defense attorney, he would have gotten away with it. Michael
Yeah, the original problem for Hasbro started with Armada Red Alert who had a red cross. I'm not sure of the exact legal details but they basically were forced to keep the cross out of any future products. If you notice Powerlinx Red Alert has some funky gear symbol where the cross was. The trickle down was that Ratchet also could no longer use the crosses, which is why they disappeared from the DW comics in the middle of G1 volume 2. A full print run of a G1 issue was even pulped and reprinted because a red cross had been missed. Not sure if Hasbro's being as careful lately, I've seen the cross show up on Ratchet on some IDW comic covers.
