If Grimlock wasn´t borderline brain dead and heavily damaged would he fared up better against Tarn?

Grimlock doesn't exactly have a proven track record as a badass in IDW continuity. Honestly, I'd probably say Tarn.

Agreed, he isn't the nigh indestructible unstoppable robot he was in the early G1 cartoon.

Tarn, many times over. Grimlock is very overrated and has never been that big a deal compared to top tier guys like Shockwave and Megatron. He has the strength and durability to look impressive at the start of a fight but hes just not at that level.

Prowl even flat out says Grimlock (as well as Prime, Megatron and Fort Max) pale in comparison to Tarn, Sixshot and Overlord.

Grimlock's just stubborn so far in IDW, he's not as strong as previous incarnations built him up to be.

If you think about it, he's more or less lost each fight he's in, right?

    Dynobots vs Shockwave; Dynobots lost
Grimlock versus Scorponok; Grimlock nearly died
Grimlock vs Shockwave, again; Nearly a stalemate, because Shockwave stopped bothering
Grimlock vs Scorponok; not clear, but if it went on, Scorponok would again gain the upper hand.
Grimlock vs Tarn; once the drugs started wearing off, Grimlock lost all his edge, though to be honest he lacked the mind to put into the fight.

Grimlock is confirmed in this universe as being one of the most powerful. Unfortunately he was kinda Worfed in the spotlights. where he was put up against a recently upgraded Skorponok and the rage driven, temporarily mindless Shockwave. In Maximum Dinobots, he's a bloody one bot army, stronger than all four dinobots put together and who knows how many headmasters. Regardless of the result of this fight, the language used to describe him and his portrayal outside of Spotlights is that this guy is crazy strong

That said, the Phase Sixers-level guys are the Phase Sixers-level. Grimlock's probably strong enough to take down any of the other members of the DJD, but if this Tarn is the Tarn Prowl is talking about, then I'd have to say no, he can't win...but then, if that's the case, why did those two good hits actually look like they bloody hurt Tarn...unless Shockwave did more than just brain fry Grimlock on that ship...hmmmm.

It's a fight I'd like to see though. For one, of the "normal" (he still bloody dwarfs Prime) sized autobots, he's probably the only one besides Prime that would have a shot. Plus, he's an angry military genius.

Tarn, easily. Dual fusion cannons and 'weaponized conversation' seal the deal.

Darnit it's Tarn. Sorry for the pun. Hands down Grimlock will lose unless given a massive upgrade.

    Grimlock: said to be overrated
Tarn: also said to be overrated.
I think it would be a darn interesting fight.

If Simon Furman writes it, Grimlock wins

And if James Roberts writes it, Tarn wins. But the entire fight happens off-panel and all we get to see is a shot of Tarn looming over a defeated Grimlock while other characters (and the narration text) inform us of how awesome Tarn is. Someone makes a smart-ass remark, there’s a reference to the number 113 and then Tarn kills Grimlock.

But next issue, it turns out that Grimlock didn’t really die because certain TFs can survive without a spark now, apparently. More smart-ass remarks, more references to the number 113, Overlord shows up and does absolutely nothing, then Tarn gets curb-stomped on-panel by Tailgate, Bob and a half-eaten sandwich. But just when things look darkest, it’s revealed that the entire IDW TF continuity is just memories implanted in Rung’s mind by shadowplay and he’s really just been watching a snow globe the whole time.

If Costa writes it arcee interrupts the fight doing stereotypicaly agile ninja kicks with the two slow sluggish but powerful men unable to hit her she murders them both

^ Haha. The cynicism is strong with this one; or is it accurate observation? As much as I love Roberts' writing, I'll admit that the 113 reference is getting a bit tiresome. It's being used for the most mundane of things, I'm betting it'll turn out to be someone's shoe size next. Still, I suppose it's better than hearing about things being a surplus to requirements every other page. :lol

I think you mean John Barber. If Costa wrote the fight they'd both just sit down and die, because apparently robotic organisms have no real motivation to do anything, ever.
