Would love the flames to go. I'd probably love the design without the flames

Forget Earth . . . Bay said this movie would be more of a Sci-Fi.

What I hear Bay saying is: "more time spent in space".

The original OP was a Freightliner right? I still see those all the time . . . they're massive.

In G1 the bots had lips and teeth. So nothing new here. However my one gripe is Optimus Primes eyes, he needs to have the traditional look for his eyes, and only have the eyeball look if damaged in battle. Similar when he loses his faceplate in battle to reveal his mouth, and further damage shows his voice box. As shown in G1

I don't really care if they change the design of the robots or not. I just don't want anymore oversized P.O.S. Mech TecH weapons! It was a gamble that didn't pay off!

flat-cabs are all but nonexistent in north america these days, since the length restrictions and logistical (ie. geographic) issues that made them attractive simply don't exist here anymore compared to Europe.

I kind of hope Ops gets a new alt mode altogether, like a fire truck or something.

but the UK flag is in the same colours...

Anyway I would love to see him taking on a firetruck mode again :D  but I don't want him to become boxy maybe bulkier but definitely not boxier

They should just give Prime a more concept looking design all together. I feel it may even come off a bit more youthful as well. *shrugs*

This awesome piece of Truck would be a brilliant upgrade IMO.

    Peterbilt-Mag

    or...

    Peterbilt-Sentinel

Either of these designs would make him look pretty powerful and menacing IMO

No lips? So you just want exposed teeth and gums? That sounds lovely.

I don't think either of those trucks actually physically exist. But they would make for some neat alt-modes.

I work a lot with design and marketing so I have a major interest in what the movie designs actually look like, even to the most minute details.

For the most part the clunkiness of some of these characters is understandable since they were attempting to make them look realistic for live action, all without losing the alien feel. They churned out some very neat ideas that of course sold well in terms of toys, and essentially that's what it boils down to. With that line of reasoning I can see why they would want to update and redesign the product they put on the screen.

With so many different styles and character incarnations throughout the years its not so much a matter of continuity anymore like some of you are claiming but rather a matter of retranslating those design cues in a new format to meet the criteria of whatever feels fresh at the moment. If you look around you, you'll notice that major companies and small businesses alike are moving towards a more minimalistic approach in their visual brands. Microsoft has gone from a wavy pixelated windows logo, to a smoother gradient oriented logo, to now a flat 4 square logo. The brand changes but the main idea is still there, becoming ever less complicated and more easily indentified. Hell, Hasbro has been pushing BotShots, Kreo Microchangers, and Cyberverse figures for months now so it's obviously catching up to them (its also important to note that they test the prototype toys with kids, whose design preferences become clear in terms of what the target market is looking for these days)

I fully expect and hope for the movie designs to follow suit since simpler designs are more recognizable and look better on screen in which you don't want to keep the audience guessing who's ripping whose face off. Semi truck or fire engine it may be, I want Prime's robot mode to more closely resemble a modern/movieverse version of his IDW Classics look.

    Also, I hate the flames.

That just seems like rubbing it in to me. Your house is on fire and a firetruck arrives with flames painted all over it. That would be like getting hit by a car and the ambulance that arrives to help you is painted all over with damaged bodyparts. Or a hearse painted with dead bodies.

Of course, I know there are some real firetrucks out there with flame paintjobs, but it just seems wrong to me to combine those two.
