Ok so my friends have this idea that all metal music is just mindless screaming and Satanism. I tried so hard to get it through their thick skulls that there's more to metal and there's different types of metal. I would send them a song by a metal band to prove them wrong but they would say I picked the one song out of their catalog that has no screaming intentionally.

 

I didn't know that was possible not having any screaming or yelling in heavy metal.

Depends on the particular flavour of metal you're listening too. Some have little to no screaming.

Folk metal and symphonic metal should help your case.

 

First, quit calling anyone with a different opinion 'ignorant'.

 

As in screamo incomprehensible screeches with no lyrics.

 

Show them Evanescence or Nightwish.

 

They say all metal is satanic and meaningless. And call something satanic before listening to it. Is that not ignorant?

 

If they don't like it, they don't like it. Who cares. A lot of my friends aren't into hardcore punk and I respect that

They're into electronic music and if they like it they like it. But every day they always bring up and make fun of metal and say I'm a Satanist its so annoying.

 

We're talking about metal, the correct approach is to not give a fuck what they think.

Yeah they are a lot of the time but they also ask me why I like metal and that no one listens to that stuff. I understand metal isn't for everyone but I can't stand when people make lame generalizations about how metal is all mindless loud noise about worshipping Satan. Its like when people generalize rap for being about "bitches and hoes" which is true for many mainstream rappers but not all rap.

 

All music sucks except for the stuff i like...

 

Honestly, that's what it all boils down to.

To the OP: I'm going to guess you are probably around the range of 13-17 (possibly younger) so just a quick little friendly word of advice: People will like different music. People have different tastes. It's how opinions work. There's no need to force them to understand or enjoy a certain genre, as ultimately it is an outright foolish idea. Just move on. Jokes are jokes, just roll with them or ignore them. It's not worth it in the long run, because ultimately the odds are no one will care or remember what kind of music you listen to.

Alternatively, if you are really that concerned about how people envision you or think of you and music... I dunno. Change things up a bit. Add a few more genres to avoid becoming "The Metal Guy". OR just go the exact opposite way, and fully embrace being totally metal as fuck and start doing metal as fuck things.
