Thank Primus! As much I enjoyed the Unicron trilogy, Car Robots, BW II and Neo and the first G1 animes, I SO not want Tfs to return to Japan yet. Phew! At least will be interesting to see these episodes when they get released. ^^

    I'm personally not into this.

Which on these boards means that I should call it garbage and pretend I'm throwing up.

    Totally generic.

We say they look generic because the art looks like any giant robot anime. If you put a Gundam or Brave logo over the picture nobody would be surprised.

    See?

Awesome robots, but horrible human designs. Typical anime. Still gonna watch it, though.

Honestly, the later could be said for the robots as well.

I'm sorry if Brave is too generic for you. But we havent had anything in the Brave aesthetic in ages (since Car Robots?).

So there will be six bots total?

Gotta laugh how much people get on the band wagon here with all of the generic design talk. Transformers don't have a unique style. Any bot on its own can be mistaken for generic mecha with the right mindset.

These all have individual bot and vehicle modes, and triple form in three different configurations each? Brilliant! Can't wait to see how these are executed! I used to dream about duo or triple form bots all of the time when I was a young lad. This is going to be so interesting.

Not very Transformers-y looking (does that make sense) but the concept seem pretty cool and I just know I'll end up buying the toys.

I know Getter robo did it first but all of them cheat a great deal when transforming. But this 3 combination type thing is very similar to Brave Saga 2's Varion. who has three different robot modes made out of three vehicles. Saber Varion, Ace Varion and Max Varion.

I dont know what is transformer-y. Animated? Movie? In the past few years we've gotten a variety of different styles so this is as transformer-y as all of those.

It's the same recently with the new IDW Star Saber images. A lot of people complained that the artist made it too similar to Gundam mechs, well the original G1 Star Saber was clearly "inspired" by Gundams of that time.

The artistic freedom given to design teams lately have really resulted in far more different designs. I agree it's really difficult to say what constitutes a definitive Transformers look these days. For the last 3 TV series, we've gotten vastly different looks.

I'm not really following this whole "not very transformers looking thing" Keeping in mind its Japanese demographic it seems like a logical progression of Zone, Victory etc

    I suppose they mean:

    1. It doesn't look like a known Transformers.
    2. Too many ornaments and colors.

Personally I get a God Max vibe out of the "police car in the top" configuration...

I for one, can't wait for the toys or this anime short. These designs aren't generic, not even counting triple changer combiner thing it’s a mix of 90's Brave and modern transformers over-detail which simply isn't done modern anime. Most modern mecha anime are the very sleek and overly ornamental designs like in code geass or very boxy like gundam.

There hasn't really been a Brave series for almost 15 years now and in recent years there hasn’t been many super robot anime made for kids in general so if that is the tone of this brief short, I welcome it and hope it’s the start of more independent projects from takara.

Main reason it doesn't look "transformersy" to me is pretty obvious: the combiners don't look like they actually have souls, there's no emotion in their eyes. They basically look like a lifelice piloted robot suit.

I do love how we have so much more to choose from when it comes to having styles in the franchise nowadays as opposed to being stuck in the blocky, and simple G1 esque styles during the UT days a decade ago. It gives out more room for creativity that way. :)

Still while I'm not really a fan of the classic G1 style or something like that it's nice that people who love that style are now getting new toys done in that style. And homaging classic anime robots helps too.

Yeah it is. Wonder if this will happen near the end of season 3 then it'll lead into going against the Predacons on Cybertron in the BH movie?
