Also, just in case you guys want a blast from the past or you just didn't know what I was talking about with the MP-01 Masterpiece Convoy and Binaltech Smokescreen, here ya go:

 

Didn't we see colored photos of the robot mode already?  

 

Good old times. I remember that era very fondly - and how thrilled I was when Convoy finally arrived together with Lambor (Smokescreen was actually released three months earlier).
Oh and take a look at the prices, the BTs back then were 5000 Yen. MP cars I believe are 6000 Yen which is quite okay, considering inflation over 10 years.

 

heh, a bit underwhelming to go backwards from seeing high-res final product pics to tiny, low res prototype pics  

 

I'm quite disturbed that the binaltech cost much less than the mp sideswipe/red alert and has diecast and rubber tires!!?

 

Eh, bit backwards isn't it, with the prototypes being revealed now?

That MP-01 proto looks badass, I want it.

 

So sick of seeing tiny photos of stuff going on overseas. *sigh*

 

So I guess we need to scour the net looking for all mp proto photos eh?

 

 

I luv seeing these progression pictures leading up to release but this....this seems like a step in the wrong direction. 

@Superquad7 Nice! I didnt join the MP bandwagon until 2010 so seeing these pics are neat!

 

I missed that boat, but not by much. I wasn't following things on the net at that point, but I happened across Alt Sideswipe and Smokescreen in Kmart one day and was all, "oooooooooooo!" I had no idea about 20th OP until I saw it at Walmart not long after. I stopped in my tracks (I was making for the checkout line at the time with some friends), looked at it for a few seconds, picked it up and continued walking. I didn't know how much it was, only that it was going to be mine and credit cards were handy.  

On-topic, yeah, proto shots. Tiny proto shots. Of stuff we've seen the final product of. Yay?

 

Yeah, but at least these show their guns can mount on the roof. Still, I'd rather they be concealed underneath the vehicle like the Universe figures.

Well, all of the current "Masterpieces" are a bit on the small side.

Am also wondering too since we have seen the colored photos,more or less the figure size is around there.

 

the first time to actually see it, though that feature had already been announced for the Nissan-bots

not a particularly impressive sight with the rifle mounted, same as with the Lambor-tanks

weapon-storage, yes. A feature that I'll use or enjoy, not really. Some folks will appreciate it, though.

 

Yep, but seems TFsource just wanted to draw our attention to these... coz they need more preorders!!
Maybe Soundwave's problem is making people preorder these in other sites  

 

That is sure 1 kind of marketing strategy.

 

I think this IS the case. After getting screwed out of Soundwave. I canceled all three of my MP car preorders at TF Source and took them over to BBTS. Sure you can get free shipping at TF Source if your order is over $150, but if they don't get enough of the figures to fill the orders what good is free shipping?

 

for those who think this is a step backwards, while it seems odd the color images we have seen were likely painted prototypes (rapid prototype) and these new images are possibly prototypes from the injection mold tooling (test shots)


while i agree its a bit unorthodox to do it that way, its was probably just to build hype for these figures.
