Wow.......not bad but I'm looking for something a bit more toned down.

Maybe someone should quote the picture again so we can all see it...

Useful thing with those Pretenders is being able to change the helmet. Slap a new shaped one on there along with a colour change and it'll make the figure look quite different.
As for colours maybe TC and SW could pretend to be Acid Storm and Sunstorm by using those colours for their shells.

I thought Sunstorm was a great character in Dreamwave. Liked the fact that he wasn't necessarily evil.

How about different skin/hair/eye colors for the human heads?

Man some of those guys are pretty terrible.

Bludgeon is the best out of all the Humanoids, just because he is a Samarai skeleton.

They should have went wth shells that fit in with their color schemes a little bit more.

I love all the Monsters though.

That would have probably defeated the whole purpose of using a Pretender shell as a disguise.

Stranglehold's shell should never see the light of day again.

Fiction wise, Hound should have gotten a Pretender shell since he secretly wished to be human. I could imagine Grimlock letting have him the shell given his disdain for humans. That said, I don't think Grimlock's shell would suit Hound.

Bludgeon could be repainted as Wreckage since they share a mold in the Movieline and I always like when newer series TF's appear in G1.

Stepper and Bugbite would be nice too and give Stepper his Nebulan.

Personally, I'd reissue the shells with the better articulated Actionmaster bots which all fit in their respective character's shells. Grimlock and Jazz' inner bots were just terrible.

    Seeker Drones would be nice.

I would actually love it if just the shells were made to fit existing classics characters idea - deluxes would have been awesome, but would (maybe?) be too big (I'd still buy 'em) so something could be done to upgrade the legends scale toys with pretender shells?

The shells should have some articulation though - maybe something like an oldschool GI Joe, but without the crotch/torso swivel

I did up some quick photoshops. First, I took a Starscream shell and figured out just what hue changes would be necessary to make him look like his original colors.

His teal was essentially a negative of his red, and the brown was actually a dark shade of red so I changed it to blue. So next up, I had to photoshop the shell into G1 Skywarp and Thundercracker colors, then just do the whole negative of the main color, and swap the other color to the third primary color on their G1 selves. I came up with these.

love the the grey and purple thundercracker. Just picked up a custom hound pretender on ebay. its' the mini legends hound, in a customized Jazz shell. Looking forward to it arriving. There is no helmet though. I thought that perhaps one of the 12 inch GI Joe figures might have a helmet that fit, but they are way too big. So now hunting for the right helmet to top him up.

This idea is still alive. I decided to forward the idea to eHobby and see what happens. I submitted the picture below showing all of Insane Galvatron's Photoshop concepts. It would be nice to see a set of all three with color coordinated shells. Starscream's change can easily be explained as an upgrade, and they could also recolor his inner robot in anime colors. I really think this would be a big seller for them. An exclusive set of never before released Pretender seekers using G1 molds is a guaranteed hit. I am not updating here to revive an old thread, but rather to ask everyone to email eHobby at the address below in support of this idea. Starscream has waited almost thirty years for reinforcements in his battle with the three Autobot Classic Pretenders. Let's make this happen!

Skywarp's Pretender shell would be Acid Storm-colored?

    Ebay:
Skywarp's shell could be in Machine Wars Skywarp colors.

Of course I would not be opposed to seeing the shells in the colors of the robots. Possibly consider Welcoming Committee colors.

Also, add holes for the wings and maybe you could use the Hasbro Legends toys as inner robots.

That would be a nice alternative to the original inner robots if the mold is damaged or lost. I would love to get these in the original mold, though.

I have submitted the idea to Takara/Tomy and Hasbro via email this morning, as well as eHobby last night. I also ran it by TRU but was shot down instantly. They said they have an "in-house" team that develops ideas for exclusives and they do not accept unsolicited concepts. It's their loss considering how many of their "in-house" team's ideas end up clogging shelves.

My thought earlier this morning was, if we can get Astrotrain and Blitzwing in colors that literally nobody wanted, why can't we get this?
