I don't think I'll be painting.....altho I am kinda tempted to paint the yellow on Silverbolt a more metallic gold but I haven't decided yet.

I'm probably not going to paint myself. I remember a while ago someone painted the abdomen part white, but I'll probably just leave it black.

Thanks for the comparison pics guys. The size difference is pretty close to G1.

I noticed TFC got Blackbird, but all the pics are still unpainted prototype. If you order from them, do you get a fully painted figure? Also, what is BBTS?

IF I get the set, I'll be doing the same thing...though I'm afraid once I start on one thing, I'll end up going whole hog...

TFC is not RobotKingdom. RK is just the preferred vendor for TFC's line of figures. And yes, you'll get a fully colored set of figures when you buy from them. BBTS is BigBadToyStore.com, which is also a retailer of toys.

Thanks. I meant to say TF SOURCE has Blackbird in stock but the pics are not painted. I tried contacting them to be sure, but have yet to receive a response. I've never ordered a third party figure before. Of all the vendors, who do you guys recommend? I was going to go with TFSource since I already created an account there and they have "source points", but will take any advice on this.

Seriously these. We were always told in woodwork to make a pilot bump/hole/dent-thing to help guide the drill in straight. hammer and nail does the job, but probably a bit much for thin plastic.

I'm not overly sure why they didn't put the heads in the nosecones to be honest. Ah well, not a massive loss really, plus I'm sure someone'll mod them to do so at some point which will be cool to see.

OMFG, I love it even more without the jetpack attached! Plus they do make quite cool weapons...very nice. Think that might be my stock transformation :D

I totally agree about enjoying the figures individually so their uniqueness isn't lost amongst the group, but I personally will be switching from Superion to Aerialbots to jets pretty regularly!

:lol  Inferion, I like it. Energon ports were a good idea on TFC's part.

Absolutely; I don't know how many times I had the drill bit skitter all over the work surface until I realized that adding a tiny hole beforehand would fix the issue. Sometimes I'll use a push pin, and then carefully widen it a little by inserting the tip of a craft knife and gently spinning the blade. I suspect a hammer and nail might be overkill though. :)

Right? Generally I agree with TFC's engineering decisions, but in this particular instance I feel that they missed an opportunity. Phantom could easily serve as a proper lower leg (albeit one in which the plane components would always face forward) if his head were not in the way. Similarly, Eagle could make a perfectly competent arm if his combiner port could rotate forward - which again, is primarily blocked by the transformation requirements of his head. Additionally, this would have also reduced or potentially even removed the visibility of the heads of the individual components during combined mode, which I know has been an issue for some.

While your chest mod looks great you are still hiding how small the torso is with the backplate unfolded and pulled down to extend the illusion of the torso down and out. When viewed from any angle other than dead on the back plates will not give the illusion of a larger torso. Forgive the phone pics.
The torso is about the same size as assulters...

Here you can see the torso is almost exactly the same size as Giant, a bot almost 30% shorter if you measure by the heads. Not trying to argue I just want people to truly see what they are getting. Even though I loved Eagle and Phantom and was more than a little disappointed by BB half-assed shell-former. I would have been ok if the body did not bother me so much in person. Now seeing the FP/energon superion parts on BB I see what the perfect world fix would be. Not upsizing the torso but a down size of the limbs. The limb bots would then be a perfect fit for the deluxe classics and superion would now look great along side Bruticus, Menasor, Feral Rex and Giant

I'll never get this obsession with gestalts having perfectly human proportions. Totally love the way Superion looks without the jetpack- far cleaner and sleeker and looks spot-on to me.

Just a few gentle taps'd do it ;)  I've a little hammer I use for modelling and chipping small amounts of plastic off things when I actually do mod something myself (I'm a terrible clutz around customisation, I prefer to outsource to someone with experience- hence Tigerblade's taking care of Blackbird's mods for me).

Even if they didn't make the figures scramble compatible, it just seems like it would've been the easier and neater way of transforming the heads. As you say, they'd be out the way and solve a few problems along the way!

Its not about perfect proportions, his body is TINY compared to the rest of the body by a huge margin.

So? He's a giant robot made up of five smaller robots, a brute meant to kick serious ass.

His proportions look no different to Hercules'.

That my problem with it. He is should look like a brute, he should have a powerful body. Right now it looks like he has a frail body by comparison.

Hm. Interesting thought there. He may actually work well with the Energon limbs.

I tried Energon limbs with Herc and it didn't work out very well. The connectors are somewhat different sizes, so the arms and legs just couldn't move and the TFC limbs just didn't fit on the Energon body; they just fell out. Maybe I have a bad batch?

I 100% totally agree with your views on BB...he's so under scaled and sized compared to the rest of his team...and just looks plain silly IMO...

It's really just down to him now that's kept me from boarding this set...every picture I see of him so far leaves me feeling VERY underwhelmed...maybe with the remaining two limbs attached AND in color will change my mind, but I doubt it...

Using a hammer for a precision task? Are you sure you aren't an RAF engineer? :)

Jokes aside, I'm all for mixing tools and techniques on customs. There's one custom I put together for my daughter that involved parts-swapping (via boiling), dyeing, large-bit hand drilling, magnet installation, joint fabrication, sculpting, painting and sewing. It's a great feeling, being able to look on the finished product and see the culmination of such a disparate set of skills.

Not to mention, this may be a reoccurring issue - any future TFC limb constituent with a combiner port stored in the torso could potentially suffer from cranial obstruction.
