Phantom Ray's transformation to chest shield mode involves splitting his legs and folding him in half; unfortunately, he lacks any kind of peg mechanism to create a solid join between the two halves. Similarly, his wings - which are normally pegged into the front of his drone mode - are swept back toward the rear of his drone mode, where they are held by friction alone.

Interestingly, it appears that Phantom Ray is actually designed to fold in half without first splitting his legs - there are pegs on the rear of his drone mode / back of his chest plate that line up with matching sockets on the underside of the front of his drone mode / back of his legs. Similarly, there are indentations designed to receive his landing gear, which would otherwise protrude. I suspect that this might evidence of an abandoned chest shield transformation of some variety.

 

I noticed that 2 and for the life of me couldnt figure out a usuable transformation from it.

and what i find eve more entertaining is that BB's shoulders have holes in the pegs facing foward in gestalt mode but are not useable as they are just a tad to tight. i think that and a little mis transformation would make him far more acceptable add on.

while i appreciate that TFC tried to give us a little more bang for our buck with adding another figure to the lineup. I think most woudl have bene just as happy with a plain old chest shield.

and im really thinking with those feet he can get some amazing action poses for his size and i dont think he is nearly as heavy as hercules was.

Whilst overall I'm loving the package, compared to the modded G1 style chest PR looks a bit naff. He looks far better as part of the jetpack.

I've got another member's BB in hand and I gotta say I'm loving it, he's bigger than I thought he'd be. Should have the mods finished up in the next day or so after I've picked some paint up but looking forward to getting my Phantom and Eagle on Friday to get him combined.

Incidently.....what white paint are ppl using when they paint BB's black chest part?

 

I should've sent you Phantom and Eagle to do at the same time bud, we could've recreated that shot with all the mods

I know what you mean about the holes on Blackbird's forward-facing shoulder pegs. I think the holes are there chiefly to reduce the stress the pegs may be under; but this seems overkill for the forward-facing pegs, as all they connect to is that folding chest piece extension. Another evolutionary cul-de-sac, perhaps?

I think I can understand TFC's line of thought - Superion's original chest shield is a vaguely aerodynamic form; it's not far stretch to think of it as some sort of accompanying drone component. From that perspective, Phantom Ray is a logical update.

I do think that the execution could have been somewhat better; Ray really needs to peg together more firmly in chest shield mode and indeed, this is a criticism that could be extended to the front of Uranos' torso as a whole. Personally, I would have moved Uranos' codpiece to the rear of Blackbird's pelvis (in much the same way as Heavy Labor). As such, Blackbird's chest plate would not have had to slide down quite so far (or even at all); which in turn would provide more mass and a more secure platform for his upper body.

From the looks of it, TFC simply reused the existing Hercules pistol grip mold; which is unfortunate, as Uranos' hands are markedly smaller. Normally I'll extend TFC the benefit of the doubt; but in this particular instance, it seems like an easily avoidable issue that they somehow completely failed to catch or correct. Fortunately, it's nothing that can't be cured by sanding the rear side of the pistol grip a little.

 

I believe that you can cancel preorders with TFSource; but it's essentially at their discretion.

 

Man that's a whole lotta red! but it does look nice to see Superion together (even if not really so).

If you've modded Silverbolt's chest, might we be able to see Superion assembled with the chest mod

 

Either way no one gas bb instock anyways. Guess the wait continues!!!

while they look to be the same the hercules handle fits in superions hands with no issue. i didnt check to see if uranos's handle fit in hercs hand though

but it seems to be an isolated incendent because the handle is not usuable which is probably why others havent mentioned it as theirs maybe fine

perhaps i can contact the company i bought it from for a replacement, then again hercules transparent gun doesnt nothing for me and i can just steel that one.

 

Can't wait to see how he scales with Giant. If they have about the same size difference as G1 Superion and Devastator I might have to get him.

 

Does anybody have blackbird in stock or preorder. My luck is I will get All smaller jets and miss out on
BB. What a waste that would be.lol want t get him asap
