I'm seriously considering it and may only buy TPBs are arcs I like. I'm running out of storage.

Me too. I pretty much exclusively buy my comics on comixology, and pick up trades once in a while. I thought that I would get trades of stories that I really liked, but I have yet to do that. The only part about the digital comics that I don't like is that I can't figure out how to move them to an external storage, so that I don't have to redownload them.

Silly question but you can get the free comics from free comic day on comixology right?

I just finally went completely TPB in the last year. So it's going to take a while for this old man to trust them there 'puters.

You know, I'm not sure. I don't think so. I think that's part of the Free Comic Book Day thing, is to get people out to the stores. But I know that DC ended up putting their FCBD story on comixology for free a little after the event. Usually those books are just reprints and stuff anyway.

I also want to be clear, I totally support local comic book shops. There just isn't one near me that I can make use of.

I've gone completely digital and it's great. I love the comic shop and wish I could do more to support mine, but I just cannot deny the convenience of digital. I can download an issue in seconds compared to the hour it would take me to drive to my favorite store, do my shopping and return home. With a new baby on the way, I just won't have that kind of free time. Plus I just don't have the room to store any more long boxes. I'll hit up the shop from time to time for collectibles or that one big issue that everybody has to have, but other than that, I'm digital from now on.

I haven't made the switch yet, but I'm seriously contemplating it. When Johns leaves Green Lantern in a few months, that may be the right time. Short drawer boxes have done wonders for keeping my collection organized and neat, but they still take up room and I just dont have much of it left.

Still going to keep picking up the Superman books, though, so as long as they keep printing them I guess I'll never be 100% digital...

I've gone digital once I moved and lost access to a comic book store to attend regularly. It's pretty nice, and Comixology is pretty convenient.

I've just recently made the switch, and I love it. I have 25 short boxes and they take up so much space. I made the switch to digital primarily due to lack of storage; I only have so much room for my collection, my bikes and my comics. Another thing I like about digital is that I save money in gas. I've noticed a HUGE drop off in the gas I use now that I don't have to drive to my local shop every week.

Since more people are turning digital, will this mean comic shops will become over-priced toy/game shops?

A huge drop in gas? How far is it to your local shop :p

As a comic retailer I still feel safe. There are still plenty of people that have to have their floppies. Just like graphic novels weren't the end of single issues. Will I lose customers to digital? Absolutely, thankfully I'm also aggressive at trying to get NEW customers (and sell digital off our website...so if any of you all digital guys want to help a fellow Transformers fan I have Comixology, DC, and Diamond digital available and my shop gets a bit for every book sold through me :)  ). Good stores also diversify. Some go to gaming and comics, we are comics, toys, graphic novels, and statues...so even if it's a bad comic week it's usually a good toy week or good in another area. I've seen stoes try to be 'just comics! We're a PURE comic shop'....and then they close...

In the long run though a lot of this isn't just for comic retailers. Many shoppers are going online only and landlords have yet to realize that in this changing economy their retail space isn't worth the premium it used to be. Until those guys make adjustments in their expectations a lot of stores, not just comic and toy guys, will continue to fold.

I buy digital every week but I'll grab the trade for everything I like when it comes out. With the constant shift in creative teams I didn't want to end up with boxes of terrible comics taking up space like I did in the 90s.

my comic book shop gives me 25% off for opening a pullbox with them...any of the digital off discounts?

and with some comics offering codes for the digital one too, it'd still be cheaper.

After a month or so the digital ones drop in price, and they have the occasional freebie.

Another thing is gaming rooms for table top games. 3 out of the 4 comic shops in my area have gaming rooms that can be signed out.

I've just about gone completely digital. I get all of the monthly series I collect (Walking Dead, MTMTE, RiD, TF Spotlights, RG1) through Comixology, although I wait until a month after release so they go down in price. I'm hoping that, at some point, Comixology/Marvel/DC/whoever will get over this thing of having the issue be the same price as print for the first month and I won't have to wait. But that may not happen for awhile, since they seem to want to prop up brick-and-mortar retail for the time being. I've also been taking advantage of Comixology sales to get digital copies of older stuff I have to get rid of the TPBs I have and clear up space. I've also been using...less scrupulous methods...to acquire digital copies of older floppies I have that haven't ever been (or won't ever be) reprinted (ie - a lot of Dreamwave's TF stuff), so I can clear out some of those single issues.

The only things I'm still picking up the physical TPBs for are series like Bokurano, Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service and the Avatar TLA comics that don't seem to be available digitally (or the digital offerings are woefully behind). I did stop by a comic shop this weekend when I had some time to kill but, other than that, I haven't been in a physical comic shop in probably a year.

I would like to go full digital, but something about owning the physical comic is more rewarding. However, I do like the convenience of digital comics and with all the free Marvel digital comics stickers I have, I might convert soon.

I've gone all digital with IDW and pretty much stopped collecting the rest just because the price and space were getting out of control. I've collected off and on for over 25 years. Having the physical copy to a special issue always appealed to me but over time I've learned that comics are no longer "collectibles" really which helped me get over those feelings.
