I have a good deal of old comics sitting arround in plastic with boards that I just no longer have the need or use for.

X-men titles from the Phalanx Saga until about 3 years after. (Generation x, X-men, X-force, Excalibur. Age of apocalyopse stuff, X-Man, Onslaught titles...)

Superman title from the death of superman, until he was came back.

First 30 or so issues of Superboy from that time period, early young justice, first 30 or so issue of Impulse, Zero Hour, Amalgum, Green lantern early Kyle Rayner stuff, Flash from that time period. Azreal running arround as Batman.

Spider Man's Clone Saga. Some Teen Titans from that time period.

Gen-13, DV-8, First few issues of Danger Girl.

Old Archies TMNT in crap condition.

Just a bunch of crap, boxes and boxes of the stuff from the late 90's.

Do comic book stores buy these at all, obviously at a discounted price, or am I just stuck with these?

I would like to get something for them, but if I can't do anything, since ebay doesn't seem like a hot comic avenue, I may just look for a adoption agency or somewhere with alot of kids and see if they want them.

Any advice on what I can do with these asside from give them away or burn them for heat?

 

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've got a couple thousand comics sitting in my living room right now. Tried the Ebay route, but that didn't go too well. Thought about taking them to a comic shop. Might be able to get at least something out of it.

 

Unfortunately, most stuff from the 90s is worthless, unless you found a collector needing to fill in some gaps.

 

Yeah, have a yard sale, or donate a few piles to places kids'll otherwise be able to get their hands on them -- might get the next generation interested.

 

If all else fails, I may be interesed in some of the Onslaught, Amalgam and especially the Clone Saga stuff.

 

I had a bunch--went through Wizard and pulled any that were worth even five bucks, and took all the worthless ones to one of those Ebay stores. Saved me the hassle of posting, shipping, etc. You won't make as much, but (at least to me) it was worth the time I saved. Ebay'd the worthwhile ones myself separately. All in all, defintely felt like I got my money's worth.

If you've got a good relationship with your comic dealer, though, finding out what they'll give you in store credit is probably a pretty good way to go also.

 

Dont go buy Wizard. Their price guide is shit. Go pick up an Overstreet Guide for a better idea of price.

 

That's only marginally better (if only because they list more titles than Wizard). eBay's completed auctions are still better for a price comparison.

 

True, but like I said Wizard is shit after the crap the former (?) editor, Shamus (or how ever its spelled, pulled. Remember when Wizard was saying that Valiant comics were the hotest thing ever and that certain issues were so hot, you could pay your childs college future at harvard? Yeah it turns out the editor's parents owned a comic store with mass amounts of, you guessed it, Valiant comics. Multiple copies of the "highest priced ones according to Wizard" Way to try and make a buck off the comic fan dick.  

 

I may be interested in the Onslaught and AoA comics if you got them. I have bunch of comics myself that I'd like to get rid of as well but I hate to go Ebay route because there are tons of comics on Ebay last time I checked and few of them were sold for good price. Right now I'd like to sell Deadpool: The Circle Chase 1~4 so LMK if you are interested.

 

I recommend E-Bay. I'm pretty sure that there aren't in print TPBs for most of those, and whole runs can get you a nice chunk of change.

 

I love eBay, for buying comics. I can get anything cheap. Got my variant sketch Iron man 7 for $10, got DD #1 for $5.

But selling has to suck. You are competing with online retailers for low prices from stuff that was massively produced anyway. And as someone stated, shipping will suck you dry.

 

You could always hang onto them and then, a few years from now when everyone else has thrown/given away those "crappy mass-produced late-90s comics that no one wants", you'll be able to sell them at a profit. Well, maybe substitute 'years' for 'decades' in that scenario.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago and sold most of my collection at a garage sale (or to my friends) and then gave the rest away to the library and a children's hospital.

Damn, I remember that one. Such a great book for the first 8 issues, then Ellis left and it just became a crappier version of Gen13 (which was already fairly crappy).

 

I would have to agree to not use Wizard and Toyfare for prices, the magazine owns several stores in the northeast, I find that to be a HUGE conflict of interest.
