Lets have a toys cleaning thread!

What do you use to clean your Transformers?

How to fix plastic yellowing and degradation?

    Best paints for touch-ups?

How to safely remove/replace pins and screws?

Cleaning sticky and smoke smelling toys.

Best tools out there for it?

Remove smoke smell by placing toys in laundry basket or mesh bag and putting them outside in the shade on a VERY windy day. It may take 1-2 days but, the smell will be GONE.

This has worked for me, infact I just left them open in the box they came in and next day they were smoke free. Still gave them a wash in soapy water.

So I got a Transmetal Ramulus, the gray plastic is yellowed in some parts. Is there a way to remove that without damaging the paint apps?

I just use soap and water with a toothbrush (soft) and q-tips to clean. I recently got a g1 sixshot cheap because he was dirty but after a solid cleaning he looks great.

I haven't had to deal with any of those things yet, but a $50 air compressor makes dusting a breeze. Lots of people buy canned air at $5 a can, it's just a waste of money.

Depends on what figure it is, mostly just dusting happens, but if it is something that cost alot, more care is given. I get a light auto wax, go all over the vehicle mode to make it shine. Check the batteries, check the joints, but alot of the time my figures stay in just one form.

Not exactly related to cleaning but I am having some trouble with some older Transformers of mine having very stiff joints. Not having transformed often I suppose but now so difficult I'm afraid parts are going to snap in half. Suggestions for loosening them without damaging the plastic? I am confident WD-40 would damage the actual joint.

How do you guys clean or maintain chrome? My MP01's smokestacks have these tiny black dots and I want to clean them out before it gets worse. Any suggestions?

I've had much success just running the joint under hot water and slowly working it back and forth until it bends freely. On some older figures with metal pins and screws holding it together, you may have to take it apart and clean the joint surfaces with rubbing alcohol to get any dirt or rust out of the joint.

For those really grimy Ebay buys, the ones that you don't know where they've been, I've never gone wrong with anti-bacterial Windex. Just cleaned up my entire BW Optimal Optimus over the weekend.

Side note: Jesus Christ Optimal Optimus has a lot of nooks and crannies.

Thanks, I also heard that toothpaste can be effective in cleaning chrome plated plastic. Anybody tried it before?

As long as it is the white stuff, yes it can be used as a polish.

I've found that just using a hairdryer on it for a few seconds warms up the plastic a little as well, making it easier to move. Haven't tried it on a TF, but it worked on the neck joint for my super pose-able Spider-Man 2 figure.

Also, WD-40 actually isn't that bad. Can't imagine it would hurt the plastic. It's made from fish oil, so it can be used for a lot of things (from an e-mail I got a while back):
