Can someone tell methe "Trick" to painting the rubbery palstic parts? Parts lik Jet nosecones, or Tank Tracs (ROTF Banzaitron). I have a ROTF Movie Banzaitron that I am cleaning up (Rough shape when I got it) and updating the paint scheme. I have a need to paint the tank tracks since some one used Black marker on them. I painted them Black (going to go with the rubbed and worn look) about Satruday. They are still quite tacky. I knew they would take longer, but how long does it normally take?

Depends on how thick the paint is can change drying times, I tend to paint several light coats as to two thicker coats of paint. Also for tricks I just clean and scuff the parts (rubbery) and paint them.

I use Testors enamels. Semi-Gloss Black 50% - 50% Thinner. i know what standard drying times are. this is the first time I have painted the soft rubber plastic parts and its still tacky after 4 days.

the moisture in those softer parts combined with the liquids in the paint create problems drying. They'll remain tacky forever, unless base coated (barrier) first.

I recommend acrylics, and the "drybrush", in flat finish.

Lots of rubbery parts out there, but a recent example...I used Privateer Paint (P3) Morrow White on Thundertron's super rubbery tail and it's very durable and dried without being sticky at all.

I have good luck with tamiya acrylics, like FR said base coat first in acrylics and go from there.

This is a good question,Butchrecon72.I was curious about this too. So,when people are saying "basecoat",does that mean a primer then apply the acrylic over that like a standard paint job?

I was wondering the same thing, I am doing G1 Divebomb and have scuffed up and put several thin coats of acrylic yellow on the wings. Has anyone else done him b4 and if so how did you do it?

If you don't mind loosing flexibility you can also brush on a thin coat of epoxy or glue.

yeah, just brush/spray a coat of acrylic first. it acts like a barrier between your enamel and softer plastic. I just paint (entirely) these pieces with my Tamiya acrylics and call it a day.

So far I have not liked the look Acylics give. It could be i just have not found the right color/toymix yet. I am painting the Tank tread to Banzaitron. 2 of the 4 were done with Enamel and are still tacky after nearly 2 weeks. The other 2 I did with Acrylic and will check them tonight.

what brand of paint are you useing for Acylics ? Pretty much all I use is Tamiya Acylics on my customs and the results are great. I have Enamel paints but I don't use them to much.
