Lately I've been feeling like the glory days of my G1 fan-service are pretty much over. (with the growing Beast Wars resurgence, Hasbro's huge support and investment in "Transformers: Prime" specifically as a continuity and main toyline, and my lack of interest in anything they've come out with). Things like this announcement, Transformers: Prime whole new Beast Wars-ish story coming up, and another round of shitty movie toys when Bayformers 4 comes out next year seem to imply this. Looks like the great day of 80's nostalgia is about over, fellas. Watch out, here come the 90's.
I would certainly like to be excited for this, however the club has stopped sending me new issues of the magazine and hasn't responded to my inquiries about this yet. So at this rate I'll never see where this is going. Also, I kind of liked Ultra Mammoth as a new character. But I suppose Magnus was moved to change his name upon reformatting just like Cheetor, Rhinox et al. Unfortunately, this strong concept has been saddled with a stupid name. Yes they are TECHNICALLY in the Shattered Glass universe and they are taking advantage of Beast Wars toys and concept, but at least going by the preview, this is nothing like what you'd expect a story titled "Beast Wars Shattered Glass" to be, therefore, it is a bad title. I suppose this indicates what some of you are guessing, that this is going to be a four-faction furball with good Autobots, good Predacons, bad Decepticons, and bad Maximals, all with organic beast modes. Eh. This will require pages of in-jokey explanations to even start to make sense (future factions, going back in time, plus not-as-future factions who are refugees from another universe). Honestly, if they are thinking of going this route they should probably drop the good Predacons for simplicity. The thought of a good Beast Megatron actually chills my bones with how boring and lame it could be. But hey, I've been on a mondo beast kick of late (for some reason Beast Hunters news makes me want to buy a bunch of cheap late-Beast era toys on EBay instead of, you know, actual Beast Hunters toys!) so I'll look forward to reading this. If the Club intends to let me.
Yes, these Autobots are from the Classicverse AKA Alternate Marvel G1. The Maximals don't exist in this continuity yet.
Okay.. I get that Magnus is based on his TFCC repaint of Big Convoy. I understand that the toy is blue. I even can put up with it being in Beast Wars, where you had a purple T-Rex and whatnot. But.. why is he the ONLY one that kept his colors? Everyone else has natural animal patterns, and they're being led by the blueberry mammoth. Does that strike no one else as odd?
That's because the others are based on their actual Beast Wars figures. But yeah, it doesn't match up. "Maximal" is a completey new faction from a different era that exists along side Autobots. Wether or not you're an animal doesn't dictate what your faction is. The Maximals had vehicle modes on Cybertron and were called Maximals, it only stands to reason the reverse is possible.
I guess that's true. The Magnaboss team and the white dinobot repaint. But that makes it even funnier to me if they're sticking to those being the same characters as their G1 versions.
^Pete deems so. I guess. BW grimlock and magnaboss sets are probably going to go up in price at least for half a year or so.
More like repurposing the toys as their G1 characters, as TFCC is want to do sometimes. BTW, IDW already retconned the four of them as their G1 selves.
Thank Primus!!! But this is going to make getting a BW Grimlock a real pain as the one I had caught a case of the GPS crumble.
So we know from the Botcon 2012 comic that there were two ships caught in the mess when the Classicverse Earth was transported to the SG universe. I'd guess that one was this ship with Magnus and crew, and they end up on prehistoric Earth. The other ship will be Decepticons...
BW Grimlock was stated to be G1 Grimlock on his toy packaging. And the Magnaboss trio being unique characters never really caught on anywhere in official fiction. Their few appearances characterised them as the G1 characters.
Their apprarances in the 3H Enterprises and IDW comics allways protrayed Magnaboss as G1 Autobots. The thing that's different here is there is no indication that they are "downsized", these would appear to be gigantic animals the size of Autobots!
Still 1000 times better than the original SG Kiss Play... *shudder* WTF were they thinking? They even took a G1 character that was an adult and made her look like a 12 year old for pete's sake.
