I repurpose because for the longest time it was the only way to get Neo-G1 characters. For a good 7 or 8 years after Beast Machines, repurposing was the only game in town. Until Wheeljack just last year.... there was no Wheeljack except for Downshift. Until Classics Prime, the only "G1-ish" Truck prime worth a crap was Armada Supercon Prime. Or most recently... until FoC Shockwave, your own option is Energon Shockblast.

And keep in mind, 3rd party stuff is really only a 3 year old thing, with the best stuff the last two.

So at least for me, who endured the Unicron Trilogy Wilderness, whose namesake was very very different from it's G1 counterpart but close enough to be the most exciting Transformer in 15 years at the time (and is completely unacceptable as a stand in now), repurposing is just a useful habit. Fortunately however, with Third Party and CHUG, there is less of it than ever.

The biggest problem today though is scale consistency. All G-1 characters at deluxe size will net you a kind of consistency, but the best prime there is (Classics Prime) is too big to go up against WFC Megatron. So you might want to go with Hegemon 3rd party, which is Ultra-class and a bit too too tall for Classics Prime, and towers over FoC Shockwave and the Deluxe Seeker Mode, but in scale with Energon Shockblast and FoC Soundwave.

Basically, here's hoping for a Voyager-scale Shockwave, Megatron and Seekers...

I've got SG Tracks as my Road Rage, Lockdown as G1 Lockdown, And when I get a Hailstorm, United Tank Megatron and a Botcon 2010 Sharkticon they are going to be G1 Hailstorm (Autocracy), Archforce and Gnaw.

I think, offhand, all I've got for repurposed figures are Cyberverse Powerglide and the G1 reissue Insecticons.

I simply leave Powerglide's feet un-transformed. The Insecticons blend in with the chrome, with my display being primarily Henkei and all.

As far as in-line repurposing, I have Classics Optimus as the Optimus clone- as opposed to the Henkei being Optimus, and numerous Hasbro Seekers as generics- again, where the Henkei figures are the named guys.

I'll probably have a couple others as well, like Powerdive and Lugnut being Centurion Droids or something.

WHY WOULD YOU COMMIT SUCH A SIN?!?

BTW, Powerglide and Guzzle were pretty much designed to be CHUGTHULHURARAR toys, flat out. They just got released in the line that was being sold at the time. Also, the 2010/Hunt For Decepticons were really CHUGTHULHUTHISACRONYMSUCKS toys, just released at the line of the time. And Fracture, Grindcore, and the other Wal-Mart exclusive deluxes of the 1st movie line were also CHUG...hell with it, Neo-G1 toys, just, again, sold in the line of the time.

Point is, not to you in particular, but to the whole thread: Just because a toy has this or that packaging on the shelf, doesn't mean it is or is not a Neo-G1 toy.

The only one I can think of is HFTD Seaspray on my Prime shelf.

I think FOC/WFC figures may get (eventually) intertwined to save shelf space.

I re-purpose toys that fit what I feel is a good G1 or Classics aesthetic. Example, HFTD Seaspray and ROTF Bludgeon. It's very clear that RTS Lugnut is a Classics remake of the character. These three are in my Classics display because they look the part.

I'm still on the fence about ROTF Lockdown. He's got a lot of movie influence that's very blatant, but on the other hand, his character is that of a crazy, parts obsessed robot who self mods to make him better..and in that way I'm okay with his movie aesthetic standing out amongst my Classics dudes. As it stands, he's just there as a stand in until someone makes a true Classics Lockdown, in the vein of RTS Lugnut.

pretty much; for example there's no good CHUG Trailbreaker. the closest is HFTD Deluxe Ironhide.

Okay, we discussed random-ass repaints in my last post. But I'll reiterate: any repaint of a mold released in another line, in my mind at least, gets put back into the line the original mold came from on my shelves. Examples would be RID Ruination on G1 shelf, Universe RID repaints on the RID shelf, A/E/C repaints go back in the A/E/C shelf, etc. Now that that's over with...

As far as your bolded, where did you come across anything suggesting that? The only toys I've seen at all where they claim that the design was originally done to fit into the Classics line were Seaspray, Lugnut, and Bludgeon/Banzaitron. Out of those three, Bludgeon was also REDESIGNED to fit into the movieverse line before it went to molding, which means that they had intended to have a more Neo-G1 look as you put it. Since it was indeed redesigned, it no longer counts as a Classics toy. "I want it there" does NOT constitute designer intention. At all.

Also, the design in question....was never a classics design to begin with - it's an old Unicron trilogy design that merely homages G1.

a redesign of a UT design, yeah that's not classics.

My take on the movieverse toys that people like to shoehorn in is that they are not classics just because they have a traditional head design or something of the likes...how to put it...think of it as an empty glass:

    Coca cola is classics
    Jack Daniels is movieverse

If you pour in 80% JD and 20% cola it isn't a glass of coca cola.

same thing with classics - if it's only part classics it's not a classics. Sure, you might find a mix that you like and that's all good - but don't pass it off as classics when it isn't. By all means use them as classics in your collection - but it's delusional to state that they are classics as if it is a fact.

My criteria is that a classic toy should look like the classic figure it was modeled after - preferably with the same alt mode. As long as it does that I'm cool with repurposing, like getting Hegemon in instead of Megatron.

So long as their badass super robots I don't care what universe their from. Maybe that's just because I have so many Transformers. But I have a tendency to let generations meet each other,

Generation 1 never ended. It just took a break. The gears keep grinding, the electron pulses keep burning. Press on and never Surrender.

I like how you put 'In my mind at least" then procesed to tell someone how they are wrong.Lets go with this train of thought for a second.G1 toys are random-ass repaints from the diaclone line(and other various lines). How does this affect your G1 toys? Do you repurpose them into G1 shelf or keep them with other Diaclone toys?

Back to the topic,i repurpose all the time...
HotD Seapsray,MP Grimlock,3rd party. If it works(or looks like)an updated G1 character(regardless of whats on the box),it goes to the classic shelf.

WTF? No he didn't - did you even bother reading what you qouted? He just told you what he does with his collection on his shelves - you're the one attacking him.

How was that an attack? If it was,i've been doing it wrong since the day i signed up..... He said random-ass repaints(i took that to mean,us shoehorners who mix lines) shouldn't be put with lines they didn't come from.So i was curious as to how his G1 display is setup.Do random repaints(G1) get mixed with Diaclone? or the other way around.

I don't so much repurpose as just have a whole jumble of different lines - G1 Prime is the only Prime I need, same as Classics Bumblebee, Henkei Hound, TFA Jazz, PCC Huffer, movie Ironhide - just my favourites.

Personally, for any little team of TFs, I like the idea of having one of a different line, such as my seekers being TFA Starscream, ROTF Thrust, Classics Ramjet, etc.

I almost get a kick that somebody out there on the internet could actually be annoyed I do such a thing.
