lol how about a Montana one? Some of us will ALWAYS have to travel loooong distances, specially our bro's across the pond. At least the fact that they DO move around a bit in can be closer once in a while to those on the east, west and south every other year, or every other third year. I for one would LOVE to see it held in Vegas just once, seems like it would do awsome there, but won't be this year. Still San Deigo sounds interesting, and looks like it will be fun experience.
Well if you guys are pissed now I bet my bottom dollar it will be back in Pasadena California for the movie in 14
Here's another one of those comments saying that, because we live in Cali, we can afford to go to any Botcon. Some of us are just now able to go because of the location. So you know what? This time, I'm going to revel in your tears. Because at this point, people are giving me buckets to work with.
They're working thier way up north... I think 2017 will be the year of Botcon Portland, Oregon! Yeah, I echo everyone else. Either they'll reschedule SDCC, or chaos will ensue.
Apparently is most likely going to stay a California Botcon. Since they hinted that in some of the forms during the end of Botcon a few years back. Congrats to you west coast folks.
It seemed to be implying that West Coast fans are affluent, at least to me. Might've misread it, yeah. But it's not the first comment to run that way.
Why would SDCC be rescheduled? It's the biggest comic convention in the country. I guarantee you that Botcon being so close doesn't affect them in the slightest. Transformers fans are a very small percentage of the people that attend SDCC. I talked to my boyfriend and we decided to put off SDCC until 2014 due to various reasons. I'll see if attending Botcon is something I can feasibly do in 2013 and if it is, I'll go for a couple days.
Well, it would be a close time between Botcon and SDCC. It takes a while to set up each convention, wouldn't it?
Yeah, I hope that was a joke. Botcon is a tiny blip on the radar compared to SDCC. It will not affect SDCC at all.
Not very long at all, plus BotCon certainly won't take up the entire convention center. The rest of the place can be under SDCC construction during BotCon if it really comes down to it. SDCC is the 800 pound gorilla of pop culture conventions. It's responsible for something between 20 and 30% of downtown San Diego's tourism revenues for the summer every year. International celebrities already have that week cleared for panel appearances. Every hotel in the city has their bookings done already. No one and nothing could cause it to reschedule. EDIT: Scratch that entire first part, because BotCon isn't even AT the San Diego Convention Center. It's a couple of miles north in a Town & Country.
If you like waiting in line for hours and/or paying inflated prices for hotels, food, toys, comics and just about everything else, all while crammed into an over-capacity convention floor, then yeah, it's a festival of lights. Otherwise, you're not missing anything. SDCC has become a nightmare over the last 10 years.
Short of moving out of San Diego. Which, really, short of the full Convention Center remodel, is going to need to happen. If they plan on keeping SDCC this huge, and making it a pop-culture convention rather than solely geek culture, they need more space. The thing has outgrown itself. Five years ago, I'd have agreed. Now... not so much. It's just not what it used to be - it's permanently a high-stress convention where you have to plan heavily just to get into one panel any more.
