This is what I'm thinking too. A few more years, cons like Charticon and TFCon and DairyCon and Slagacon will be as big and will be as great because they'll still be cheaper and, as unofficial unlicensed conventions, dealers will be able to sell their third-party merchandise. I'm happy for all the folks who will be able to go next year. But as long as FunPub continues to offer a non-attending package, getting the boxset isn't a problem, and with all these other cons relatively close by, Botcon is fast becoming irrelevant.
Never been to a botcon before. What all is there to do besides buy some stuff? San Diego is a short enough drive, but is it worth it?
I keep forgetting you're in Chula Vista now. That's where I stay also! HA! Man, I've never been to Botcon. But this year I really don't have an excuse. Don't really care about the exclusives. More interested in getting to know people and checking out the dealer room. Wow this is just crazy awesome. San Diego is fucking awesome guys. Weather should be great. I do advise you guys not to go to Tijuana though lol.
I wanted to do Botcon if it was on the west coast this year, but that's waaaaay too close to SDCC (which I also wanted to do this year). Sorry Botcon, but SDCC wins over you.
Besides meeting up with good peeps, I think you're not missing much if you don't go. Big crowds, standing in line for hours, and no 3rd party items allowed on the floor... On top of it, if you're like me and don't have any rare stuff left on your checklist, it's an easy pass. San Diego is about a 2 hour drive for me, and I wouldn't go even if you payed me. EDIT: I might reconsider however if I decide to purge a good amount of my collection. I'd probably share a few tables with some friends at that point.
No excuse not to go to botcon when it's in my home town. Never thought botcon would ever come to my backyard!
im kinda tempted. san diego sounds like fun, just depends how it lines up with my other holidays. thanks to every poster thats said 'its like you WANT the convention to fail' or words to that effect. This moronic statement has given me many laughs this morning. Botcon wont fail, people will still go, chill out, its NOT the end of the world.
Me too. Congratulations to affluent and west coast TF fans. For those of us in the rest of the country(world?) who can't afford Botcon AND airfare to San Diego, this blows.
Well I'm not going to sdcc,so the question is can I make it to botcon? Given the later date,I believe I can.
I wouldn't mind going back to CA again, but not for another few years. That, and the trip to Pasadena was overall a disappointment, not sure if it would be worth flying across the nation for, let alone across the pond for international visitors. The con just fell flat for me. I may pick up a non attendee set of figs if they are cool enough, but depending on my new job, TFCon will most likely get a visit from me this coming year. Sorry, FunPub.
