Bullshit. Exactly. Striking was the deadly blow. The union workers fucked everyone over by doing this. Instead of working it out, they decided to be pricks and sink the ship. Fuck unions.
While I'm not a fan of the larger Unions, the smaller private unions pretty much still operates with the original intentions of the unions in the first half of the 20th century.
What a brilliantly constructed response. Look, unions do some horrible shit, but look at ALL SIDES here. The people running the company fucked everyone over by being greedy, mismanaging morons for the past decade.
Yeah, exactly. It was in distress and instead of working with the company, they said fuck it and screwed everyone. Obviously the company was in trouble, otherwise a simple strike wouldn't have been so devastating. The point is that the company was forced to close its doors because of this union strike. They are directly responsible for it.
Yeah, there were comments to that effect, but they had a local (in NYC irrc) chef make them and serve this version...and all the folks that tasted them thought they tasted much better....chemicals can add some funky tastes you know.
And the executives that put the company in this horrible state a decade ago and despite having six different CEOs during this time, fixed absolutely nothing aren't directly responsible for it?
are you actually so stupid as to think that a company that can't survive a four day halt in production is being well-managed? also, again, read the thread. the company had already been managed into the ground. 6/10 for not being so obvious a troll as to get this many responses. would rage at your ignorance again.
NO! If the workers hadn't striked, they company would still be operating! How is that so hard to comprehend? I'm not debating the state of the company, I'm saying that because of what the workers did, after they were told it'd happen, their actions fucked everyone. Period.
Are you so stupid that you can't read relevant comments?: Again, not debating the company was in trouble. But the workers striking is what caused them to shut down. Not rocket science bub. Having a relevant view, and much more accurate view isn't trolling or being ignorant.
Hey Wave, if that's the case and no one else is going to produce them, maybe you should corner the market on those lovely chemicals.
Have to repeat this again. There is a lot of factors that caused this unfortunate event. It traces way pass the last time Hostess files for Chapter 11. People keep throwing around the pay for corporate executives or Unions, when a lot of that is just the company was run bad. I like to compare it to what happened to the comic book industry in the 90s. It was over saturated with companies pumping titles with multiple covers and editions every other issue. Hostess while I commend in trying something different, there is no need for 7-8 different varieties of their products. Today in Walmart, the only Hostess products I saw was all the funky flavors. Stuff like strawberry cupcakes or chocolate cram filled Twinkies. Hostess had a business formula that worked. But due to bad management, it's now a shell of it's former self.
And yet, you ignore anything anyone tells you that challenges your own opinion, and only focus on the union stuff. Read what Waverider is saying in this topic. You do not have a "relevant view, and much more accurate view", Waverider does. and with that, I'm out of this topic. It's getting a bit too... yeah.
by that "logic" it actually IS the owners fault, as they could've caved on every demand and let the company run itself into bankruptcy a week or two later as they claimed it would. the person who fires the last bullet isn't responsible for how the war went; gettin in the last punch needn't win the boxing match. What happened here was the result of years of mismanagement. Your willingness to ignore this purely in favor trying to sound edgy without any supporting evidence besides "HURP UNIONS" is mind-boggling; your blinkered black and white worldview is approaching a level of autism that I'm staggered even exists. Can we hide theads? I might weep tears of blood and pure rage if I have to read any more from this guy...
While you do not like any of firehawc_69's posts, there is truths to it. The strike is the final nail in the coffin for Hostess as we know it. Against the strong advice from the Teamsters Union, the Bakers Union went ahead. Like I said, there is plenty of blame to go around.
They sell American candy imported here in NZ. Have never tried a twinkle though I have been tempted to just for curiosity sake.
Hostess, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I can't say I care about the Twinkies, but those delicious cream-filled chocolate cupcakes? I love those things. I feel like this is the workers' fault entirely. I understand that sometimes you need to strike to accomplish things. BUT NOT IN THIS ECONOMY. A lot of companies are barely getting by as it is. And when the company warned them that they would have to file for bankruptcy, they should have called off the strike and returned to work. This is all on the employees. There's nothing wrong with wanting better pay and working environments, but you have to pick and choose your battles. This is just such a shame, all around.
I do find it interesting that other unions told them it was a bad idea, in which case like anyone else they gambled, and lost. Or to put it another way, one group of fools who fuck it up are not an indictment of the concept of unions as a whole.
