From what I was told by the girl in ken black they seem to get the excess stock from smyths suppiler. So basically if smyths over order something the excess usually goes to ken black or back to the warehouse. The ken black toy catalogue is actually a smyths catalogue, there are only two ken black in the whole country everywhere else is a smyths.
I'm only two figures away from having all the show character toys, just need Airachnid and the vehicon general. I have very low expectations regarding Airachnid but I still have to get her and I'mdeally looking forward to the vehicon general. I'm thinking that this version may get a hasbro release.
Edit: fakebusker has done a show accurate gun for dreadwing which looks awesome.

Messed around with Knockout. I really like him, looks nice in both modes, interesting transformation.
The only real issue I have is the paintjob he has. It just looks odd. It is pretty show accurate, but there is something about it.

Get the reprolabels set for him. it makes the figure ten times better and makes the paintjob mesh together better. I have a PRID version and an AM version, now that I've put the stickers on the hasbro version he looks far better than the AM version. My AM version is getting the custom treatment.
If you have Ratchet then I'd also reccommend the reprolabels set for him too.

On a seperate note. RID Bulkhead is a totally awesome figure. I'm so glad I picked him up, he's almost better than the first edtion, definitely more fun to play with.
I dont get the hate for the non first edition RID molds. Bumblebee is the weakest deluxe but he's still a good toy, Optimus is the weakest voyager but again there isnt anything wrong with him either.

Do bear in mind that the instructions are wrong, it has the front wings folded down while they should be on his shoulders. The picture on the box has it right.

    And they're still there...

Smyths Carrickmines seems to be restocking with wave 3 regularly now, I was in yesterday and they had loads of Dead Ends and a couple of Vehicons and Hot Shots.

And your first instinct would be fairly correct. Oops. Yeah, Knock Outs, not Dead Ends.

Bit random this, but does anyone remember the Toymaster in Newry? The reason why I ask is I remember visiting it around 1992 and spotting (what seemed at the time anyway) a big selection of G1. Sadly we left before I had a chance to inspect them. They didn't seem to be the gold box re-releases or the Euro exclusive toys that were coming out around that time. Looking back, the packaging seemed to be more in line with the 87 or 88 releases and I'd entertain the idea some of them may have been from even earlier. I think that's why I was excited at the time- I was sure these were ones I hadn't seen before, having only gotten into TFs the previous year and seen only the contemporary lines.

What I am wondering is if I have perhaps embellished this brief childhood memory or is it really possible that TFs from the late 80s were still being stocked in such abundance by that particular Toymaster in 1992? I'm still curious about what they had.

I'm not certain it was 92 but it was no earlier than 91.

Do you think it's possible at all that around 87/ 88 they had ordered too many TFs and just hadn't sold them? I did get PM Prime (from Woolworths) in 91 so...

I do think that a good amount of the toys were boxed ones rather than the smaller ones in blister packs and in 87/88 style packaging.

I picked up the decepticon clones, autobot clones and Megatron form the shop on jervis street that used to sell macross stuff, I keep forgetting the name of the shop.
I remember Carrolls having some older transformers and gobots, I distinctly remember getting Springer, Brawl and Vortex in Carrolls, never saw the rest of the combaticons though. I also remember Carrolls stocking the MASK toys too.
I got brawl and vortex in 91 and everything else was gotten no later than 93.

Were Brawl and Vortex in the gold classics packaging?

miscreant, is there a list anywhere of which Chinese market G1 toys came over here? Did you ever visit that Toymaster around that time?

Toymaster did seem to be stocking a big-ish amount of these G1 which suggests that they had acquired it more recently, rather than being stock they couldn't sell. TFs were obviously still selling pretty well generally, hence the classics releases and the European line continuing, so that's another thing in favour of the Chinese suggestion. Didn't Woolworths have some Chinese and Mexican releases at the time?

Apologies if I'm hijacking this thread.

I cant be certain about brawl and vortex, i think they were in the gold packaging. I do remember around that time seeing some of the stunticons in the gold pacakgaing, but since I already had them i didnt pick them up. i remember distinctly that Megatron, Springer and the clones were in the orginal packaging not the gold packaging. The constructicons i got were in the original packaging too.
There was a toymaster in Carlow then too which had Sunstreaker, Grimlock,Sludge and snarl in the original style packaging too. I remember they had started to get the first wave of G2 stuff in too. THe G1 recolors and not the new molds, becasue I remember seeing the G2 dinobots and a green seeker with that silly sound effect backpack thing.

Tesco Stillorgan had Voyager Bulkhead and Starscream today. Regular price, unfortunately, and I wouldn't say that Starscream is worth that.

Prime voyagers are on sale for 14.99 in tesco carlow, so its probably the same in the others. They have the cyberverse wave with fallback and knockout too, seen hyper wheeljack and tailgate as well.

yep, I picked up a starscream.
I have yet to see a voyager Megatron which has me thinking that tesco have skipped wave one and gone straight to the wave with Bulkhead,Starscream and Optimus.

That's just brilliant. Thanks for casting doubt on the legitimacy of some of my beloved childhood relics. :dunce

No, your memory is absolutely correct.

I was too young when G1 hit, and wasn't able to persuade parents/relatives to get me any of the toys until the later years when TFs were very much in decline. Every year they got more gimicky, less intricate and more plasticky. It went from Powermasters to Pretenders to Micromasters to Actionmasters, - the ultimate betrayal. Naturally I thought most of these were rubbish, and coveted that which I could not have. Earlier G1.

So of course I recall it vividly. We only stopped there once.

It was like a treasure trove beyond my wildest dreams. It was bigger than any TF section I'd ever seen in the republic. I distinctly recall them having Ultra Magnus, Rodimus Prime, and others, possibly Kup as well. This was about the only occasion in my childhood where I pulled out all the stops in my attempt to convince parents of the absolute necessity that they had to get me something. I specifically remember pointing out the 'educational value'(dubious); the rarity of the find. If it'd required a tantrum, I probably could've gone through with it. I was not leaving empty handed.

I must've caught them in a good mood, because by the time we walked out, I had a Rodimus Prime, and since I got something, my brother got Hot Rod(pre-targetmaster). I never had any reason to doubt the authenticity of these, they just appeared to be old stock or overstock. I still have Rodimus, he's in good nick, but is in storage. I'll check it next time. I'd be very surprised if they were Chinese counterfeit, they came with the fold-out catalogue chart announcing 'The New Leaders'.

The only downside to this story was Rodimus being one of the worst toys of his era, and missing his gun. But at least he looks cool.

I was in Nutgrove Tesco a few weeks ago and they had heaps of TFP Megatron and Optimus.

While I'm back posting, here's 2 figures I managed to pick up in the past month. First I'd seen of either of em in the country.

DOTM Air Raid found in a 'Mr Price.' Also saw 'Darksteel', the DOTM Sideswipe repaint, but not interested. I'm sure others may have seen these, but might as well record it in the interests of posterity.

HA Tailpipe found at a TK Maxx which also had the moon buggy HA.

I just had to get this particular one cos it's a targetmaster, ... in addition to being a Human alliance, an alleged 'triple changer', and all this while supposedly falling under the line-wide 'mechtech' gimmick. Just one gimmick on top of another here, not counting the original gimmick of transforming robot. Classic Hasbro.
